I fail to see why advertising a fan site...

There's an entire FORUM dedicated to advertising for guilds, yet there's "no advertising on these forums?"
I do so enjoy reading your reasons for closing threads.

Since when have they ever had any logic?0

There is a difference between a guild forum and a forum that's almost the same as PWI forum or it is about to become such.0
-
I guess you're right.
But hey, deleting every instance of "use ecatomb.net" or "use pwcalc.ru" should at least keep them busy for a while.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Really? Want to outline how one fan site is different from another for me?
That would be super awesome of you, since you seem to understand things on such a deep level.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

This basically looked like
"Has anyone ever been as far as to decided to look more like" to me0 -
Sorry, everyone should know he's right and has a valid point.
Also, it's an invision board... the shame. xP0 -

Hey man, don't be hatin' on invisionfree.... it's all I could get on short notice. If things go well, we'll move to a better system as soon as we're able, for sure.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

phpBB or simple machines are the best free forum software packages.
vBulletin is just the best though, but $160 is a bit much to blow on a fan site.0 -

actually SMF can be like 9001 times better then vbulletin if you get the right mods for it...0 -

vBulletin doesn't need mods, it does everything out of the box. You can basically do anything you want without touching a text edtior, and all the changes stick if there's a major upgrade. phpBB can do just about anything, but you need to **** a bit. There are tons of modifications for it though...
I like simple machines, but I don't have any experience with the backend.
vBulletin also has the best mod/admin tools. If I were starting a serious forum, it's the only choice I'd make. vBulletin0 -
SMF looks really interesting, I'll look into that as soon as I get done with this schoolwork I'm working on.
I love vBulletin, but it's really outside of my budget atm.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Well the reason I like SMF, is out of the box it is exactly that, a forum, no extra frills bells or whistles, you install exactly what you want, no more, no less.Loltank - Harshlands wrote: »SMF looks really interesting, I'll look into that as soon as I get done with this schoolwork I'm working on.

SMF is probably the best free (and open source) forum software out there, it even has an automated plugin installer b:pleased
phpBB has loads of mods, but you have to manually install each one and well... I never did like that0 -
I refuse to post on that other forum until you fix the horrid theme that's currently applied to it. XD[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Yes, I'm still a stubborn holdout in favor of the old game. Haters gonna hate. ;]

I'm going to make a topic for skinning and other suggestions, so if you have a recommendation for another skin, post the link so I can check it out.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Yeah, I never liked that either... I was helping to set-up a... I think it was UBB to phpBB forum conversion... i dunno, been a while xP 1/3 of the way through getting the phpBB site up and running, I convinced the site owner to get vbulletin. We were set up and converted in less time than we had invested in phpBB to get it even close to where we wanted.Miugre - Heavens Tear wrote: »I refuse to post on that other forum until you fix the horrid theme that's currently applied to it. I refused to even sign up. b:chuckle0 -

Those aren't even forums, silly. =_= Just resources. Now, I bet that if you made a forum JUST for posting resource links, I doubt that would be prohibited, but posting a link to a forum that would essentially be a competiting forum for this one...It's really not hard to see why that is prohibited.Katzyn, level 101 Demon Veno

You and grim are both missing the point. It was locked for, and the terms of service state, "no advertisement of any kind."
So if you lock my thread because it's "advertising," then it stands to reason that you must also lock every other thread with advertising in it. Well, you know, if you were at all consistent.
Again, it comes down to the whole "we arbitrarily don't like this so we're locking it" abuse that the forums are so outraged about.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Ohoh, I see. My apologizies. I did indeed miss the point, haha.
I think, then, that's it's simply an issue of poor wording. Simple advertising has always been prohibited, but linking resources, such as those you posted (ecatomb, ect) was not considered "advertising", since "advertising" is generally something that would take "customers" away, yes?
IE, when you're advertising your forum, you want people to come look at it, and post there instead, am I right? But posting the resource links is just that - resource. There aren't forums there to post on (afaik), so those links aren't taking people away, as your forum would.
And guild forums are in a whole other class, simply because those do need to be private (cant' be posting TW secrets here on this forum, after all, or that would defeat the purpose of having secrets). **Not sure this point is getting across as clearly as I intend...sorry, lol.Katzyn, level 101 Demon Veno

I apologize if I came across as snarky in my previous reply. I understand what you're getting at here, but I guess I see any advertisement as falling into the same category. I don't really feel like content should matter.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I'm a few pages late but Loltank you remember I made several comments about how this will be SUDDENLY against the rules out of the blue.0

Nah, I didn't feel any snark. b:chuckle
And Lenore...I may be wrong, but on every other forum I've been on, posting links to another competitive forum is prohibited. I can't see why it wouldn't be the same here. As far as I know, it's always been this way here. I mean, we can't even talk about other MMOs (another form of advertising, lol~), so talking about another forum, to take away current forum members, would be, if one applied common sense, a "no-no".
That's just how I see it, anyway.Katzyn, level 101 Demon Veno

Yea I know what you mean Kat. There's also something on forums called "affiliations." They're usually sites that contain similar material, which could be competitors for the same users' attentions because they contain related material, but a different management, etc. There also used to be a thread that advertised PW fan sites, though I'm not sure if that topic is still around. Before you ask, it was a stickied topic, started by either a mod or a GM, I don't quite remember at this point. Anyways I detracted from the point a little...what I meant to say promoting traffic to and from related sites is not always a bad thing. It's in fact quite arrogant to think the ONLY acceptable management for PW related communication MUST be PWE staff themselves.0

I honestly think that is ridiculous, saying people can't post links to other forums is a sign of weakness if you really think about it. If you were to post a link to another forum because they have a piece of information that forum does no have I see nothing wrong with that, after all in the end the forum that has a better community and staff will win in the end anyway.
Oh wait... I see why, they staff here sucks so they would of course lose that battle even if it was against one of those ****ty sites of the late 80s early 90s...0 -
those threads do not advertise something like a competitive game, thats advertising a guild... some form of socialization... you know, some sort of organization that is happening in a game and extended on the internet? you're looking for a guild maybe or people to join/chat in game/forum? social networks anyone? facebook? anyone banned facebook from this forum yet?0

Fansite forums are not advertisement, and I've brought this to the attention to the mods. Any links to a fansite forum do, however, have to stay in either Off-Topic or the Fanatics Forum.
Sorry about the confusion0 -

Im unsure as to whether any forum similar to PWI's will have such fail mods b:chuckle
See, some people know how to manage a forum, and one that isnt backed by a company / official has to actually WORK as opposed to have some tyrannicle losers mod it and cause **** all over the place.0 -

Whoo double post.
Your mods should have enough of a brain to have figured this out. Fail mods are fail and you suck at your job b:bye0
