Stars are Squares - Static

Okay, I recently got this issue when I had to reinstall my windows version. I asked my friends if they saw the squares and they told me they see stars so I know for now it's just me. I have found only one other thread with a similar problem but it was closed a while ago, but what is going on is I am seeing squares for dropped items and not stars. Such as 3 Star armor or Single star gold necklace.

Well the second part is asking about this static noise I hear when I use "Think" and "Provoke" while on my cleric. Since it's sound its hard to take a picture of, but it sounds like the static from old TV's when flipping through channels fast. You get to a channel and right as it starts to make a static noise you change it and it stops to a quiet, that's what it sounds like.

Anyone else found these errors, or a fix to them?



Edit: Okay only the hollow stars are fixed, the solid stars are still squares.

    Yes I have, and reinstalling the game twice and verifying.

    Do you use a localized version of windows OS?


    Once in another game I had to install the Asian language pack within Windows XP to have the game work as it should..

    Something with fonts and stuff.

    Most likely not the issue here.

    Well I somewhat solved the problem, might be a little of what you mentioned. I don't know what you mean by localized though.

    I installed Microsoft Office 07 and it suddenly fixed the stars. I am not sure what inside the instillation fixed it but that seamed to have helped. I now see the stars correctly, when before I could only see them in the chat box.
    I still have an issue with sound, the static is still present.

    With localized version I mean a flavor of Windows OS meant for like Germans or French.

    The setup allows for a localized keyboard setup too.
    QWERTY is used for most keyboards withing the English speaking world. However the Germans have a different keyboard allowing them to easily type certain letters that are not part of English words. Same for the French.
