With levels 79-80 coming up for me i've found myself busy trying to reach a number of goals (in terms of skills, gear, etc.) that will allow me to tackle the challenges of the 8x range without having to concern myself with stuff i should've gotten done earlier, perhaps even allowing myself some breathing room at a level range in which i should start concerning myself with acquiring at least some books for my sage cultivation, as well as some of the 9x gear i should eventually be using. However lately i've begun to be somewhat concerned with just exactly what i should be aiming for in terms of achieving sufficient gear that i can continue to be considered a competent (just aiming for decent, not superb) adition to squads. I face two extra challenges; 1. No herc, while i'm currently trying to save for a nix it's become a point of pride for me not to get golden boy, and while i do expect to eventually get some rare skills for my pets which should allow me to at least in part make up for it, i'm well aware this will already disqualify me as capable (legitimately in some cases) to a large enough part of the player base. 2. No faction; i don't play regulkarly enough i could hope to become part of one, i've tried in the past and made god friends (even got to rise amongst the rank more than a few times) but eventually the problem came up that i simply cannot dedicate them the time, as i'm unable and also unwilling to log in on a daily basis (may be gone for even as long 2-3 weeks) or to play for longer than 2-3 hour stretches, except perhaps exceptionally on weekends.
Thus the importance for me of acquiring sufficient gear that i can one day hope to at least have a shot of getting a few runs in the higher instances, as well as maybe do some modest PvPing, or at least whatever i may manage on a carebear server. What is the standard at 9x? I have only heard that already at 8x you may already need to get at least 3k hp to get on certain runs and that the more elite groups at 9x may require refines of at least +8 wep, +6 everything else. Is there a target for certain stats (hp, phys res, damage) i should be trying to meet? I'm not trying by any means to compete with heavy Cash Shoppers, but just keep up with the the minimum standards on the field. I know perhaps i should have posted this on veno forums, but then i'll be playing with all classes and not just venos, and the info might be useful for other arcanes (i wouldn't even mind learning what the bar is for melees) or interesting to others.
What is the standard i should be trying to meet to get on a squad and not be considered undergeared? at early 9x? at 100?

Basically you should just get a tt90 set (armor + weapon) and refine it all to +3 (no dragon orbs needed for that) and it would be considered average. Jewelry should also be up to date ofcourse. In your case however, farming TT90 materials would take forever.
I have no idea what the standard for 100 is, but I can already tell you that the better gears for that level (tt99 gold, nirvana) cost quite a bit more than a herc.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
AFAIK Herc no longer "pays for its self" don't even bother with it.
Nix is still OP, best thing a veno can get."Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory.

The problem is that if you want to level fast after 80 (frost), you pretty much need a herc. Of course it's possible to go with friends or faction but you don't have either. If you are fine with leveling by only doing BHs/grinding/other stuff you won't need herc until later. "Need" as in being able to get to most of the squads.
Making money/equips by running TT is possible even if you play only a bit. It just takes longer but it's definitely possible.100% F2P player. Started PW: March 2007, Quit PW: March 2011.

Thank you all for your replies. +3'd TT90 doesn't seem that impossible a standard to achieve and i may even try to do a bit better on a couple of pieces. Wep will probably be my biggest issue. And while i would love to make it into at least a couple of Frost runs (just to see what it looks like) i think i'm comfortable leveling slowly through 8x, especially since getting the stuff i'll need for early 9x will take a while to collect. b:thanks0

Most ppl find frost addicting for a bit, but after a while it gets old."Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory.

I would say for 100 just refine your TT90 gear higher. Maybe +5. Also add in sockets if you can and upgrade shards.
TT99 is really for those who can afford it. The price for a full set makes Herc look like blemished shards.
I would aim for Lunar/TT99 weapon though. But for armor pieces you'll get them when you get them. No need to rush or be up to so called "standards". Just don't be using 79 molder at lvl 100 lol.0 -

I do intend to try for a Bhudda's leaf. My original plan had called for my veno, aided by some very moderate Cash Shopping, to invest something around 300-400 mil in pets/skills/endgame gears for the next couple of years. Part of the reason i started this thread was that i became concerned even such an amount would be insufficient to allow me to meet minimum standards that would allow me to be considered for high level instance squads or to engage in PvP with any sort of hope for success. Already i think my goals may be overly ambitious considering what resources (time and money) i'm willing to invest on the game.0 -

+3 is average? On p servers I swear I use on average ~75 mirages to refine a piece of armour to +3 without aids. So like 850k per piece of equipment?0

It depends on your luck really. I +3ed all of my tt80 gold and most of them succeeded in less than 20 mirages. Then I tried +3ing my tt90 and went through well over 300 mirages and only my top turned out +3.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

+3 is, in fact, average. Venos will be able to survive most stuff with +3 equips.
Over on another version, at 99 I had a TT90 green light set with the TT99 gold glaive. I had 6.2k HP and 12k pdef fully buffed. All my gear was +3. Such a set will let you farm and survive 3-2/3-3 easily with a squad provided you know what you're doing (old 3-2/3-3 bosses, not the newer boss versions). I also got through full runs of old Lunar with it (granted, I did not approach Ghostmother or Primevel as instructed by the squad, but everything else was fine).
Also, you can survive without herc. Get some of the buff skills on your rock and it should be able to tank a lot of the same things as herc. And even without buff skills, rocks can tank a lot of things at higher levels. Also, get a cactus and take off all its skills. It makes an awesome ranged lure.
And don't forget that you are just as useful as your pet. AOE seal, chi switch, purge, and amplify FTW.
P.S. You do need at least 3k HP to survive Soulbanisher in 1-2/1-3. Otherwise you'll die when he's at low enough HP.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I have been able to manage 1-2 Soul with 2.8k hp using Life Powder, of course this was barb buffed and through BB. I'm wondering what kind of refines would i need to approach high level bosses if +3 isn't enough? Think it would be kind of hard for me to make a case about being useful if i have to sit out the harder bosses.
Edit; As for the ranged pet is this recommended or necessary? Are there pulls fast pets cannot manage?0 -

I know a lot of venos use a ranged pet to pull phlebo in eden... a kowlin could probably do it but idk
Oh and... 2.8k hp buffed is like insanely low even at 7x... at the very minimum as an arcane 3k at 90... should be able to pull off kinda easy0 -

No, that's 2.8k hp unbuffed, my mistake. b:thanks Thank you all, once again.0 -

Ideally, you should shoot for at least +5, I'd say. The higher, the better. But as I said, it's only in extreme cases where you'll have to sit out bosses at like +3-+5 refine. Old Ghostmother and Primevel were very hard and having me dying probably would have done more harm than good in there so I was asked to sit it out with a BM friend of mine. Of course, the rest of the party on that run were like all +10-+12 with two of them having Warsoul weps...but lets not get into that.
Ranged lure is very nice since there's many situations where a melee range lure is very very likely to die before it can lure something. I personally just tamed one of the cactuses in fb89 Eden for my ranged lure. :X[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

didn't know Harshlands had a warsoul weapon , let alone two b:shocked0 -
Thanks for your reply Eoria, i think this gives me a good basis on which to start crunching numbers for a future build.0

No. Harshlands does not have anyone with warsoul weps as far as I know. This was on PW-MY which has three or four people with Warsoul weps currently.
@Manray~ Keep in mind I was a light armor foxie though. You're arcane so some of your stats will be different. Good luck.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
