I'm going to need some more information from you about your computer.

Find out what the model number for your PC is. Check the documentation that came with your PC, or look on the back or bottom of your PC for the model Number.

Please tell us the manufacturer's name of your system too! (Like HP, Dell, Toshiba, etc.)

Next, go to Start, click on Run (or Search if using Vista/7), and type in dxdiag and press enter.

Click on the Display tab, and then post here everything in the Device, Drivers, and DirectX Features boxes:
    DxDiagRequest.JPG

    Thanks!

Thank you for helping me :)

Looks like it might be to do with the video card? Wife informs me she go an error message about the card yesterday...... :(

The system was bought from a local computer shop as one of their own assemblies. No brand as such

    Thank you again :)

Yeah, it sounds like you probably don't have any drivers installed for the video card. Of course, depending on the error message your wife got, the card might not be seated properly either.

In any case, I would suggest contacting the store you bought it from, asking them what video card it contains, and then finding out where to get the proper drivers for it.

I was continually getting the same error message upon clicking start, having just reinstalled windows XP. I just updated my graphics card driver at the NVIDIA website and the problem is now fixed! I now realize that my screen refresh rate was horrible too before the driver update.
