    It's because you have a higher percent chance to obtain more rare items that when combined will give you a better value overall by placing 2nd-5th rank. For instance, the excitement/ecstasy cards or Sage/demon card that gives you 50 boutique event gold is much higher with the silver packs than the gold packs. Sure, placing first can give you a chance to get that lunar ring (0.5%), but it's a big risk. You have a similar chance of getting things like uncanny and COF letter in the gold packs as opposed to those cards in the silver packs. If you opened a pack and you are destined to get one of the 3-5% occurrence item, which would you prefer - Uncanny/COF letter/Chips from the gold packs, or 50 event gold/Ecstasy card from the silver packs? It's not entirely bad to get 1st, depends if you are the type of person that likes to gamble.

    As for the answer to the other side of your question, I guess it's fine if you are a woman irl, but if you are a guy - make sure that the process is not just about you. Wing Span -> Aim Low -> Quickshot is not always a good thing, and any pro archer will tell you likewise. This applies to in game too b:laugh

    meh, i type a paragraph just to realize why second to fifth place might look better to some people. uncanny have 3% when it's only worth 0.5 mil and Demon/Sage Event Card having only 1% instead of 3%, which actually increase the odds of getting crappy items from first place higher than second to fifth place. now if they switch both odds, then it would be actually better to get first place.

    ... except the 0.5% chance for a lunar ring is good
    also a lot more insignias for 1st place, which, at the moment on HT, is decent profit
