Fly/Ride Speed Query

I just compared the speed of my veno on the slow wavepacer (0.5 m/s) to my Cleric on the Panther (8 m/s) and according to simple math it appears to me it should be like 16x faster.

Its not even close, maybe 30% faster.

What is the relationship? Am I comparing Apples and Oranges? If I am why are they both using some form of standard metric. Is there some base speed I dont know about?

Help me understand (I feel totally ripped off bothering to buy the ride)

    A wavepacer isn't 0,5 m/s, it's +0,5 m/s. It adds 0.5 to your character's running speed, which for a veno adds up to about 5,5 m/s (summer sprint doesn't affect flying speed).

    A mount on the other hand is always the speed it states it to be.

    Small point but the fly mount adds 0.5 to the base run speed of 5.0m/s which is a constant value for all classes.

    A couple of classes do not run at 5.0 m/s in game (without buffs anyway). The aerogear +x number adds onto a base flying speed. Not a base running speed.

    And the base flying speed for all classes is 5.0, which aerogear then adds onto.

    Wrong.
    Clerics/Psychics run at 4.8 m/s

    With my Dark Lords, I fly at 8.1 m/s
    On my mount, I stay at 11.
    Using the fast speed thing on my Dark Lords, I go just a bit faster than my mount. b:victory

    Actually it should be described as a 5.0 base movment speed in the air for everyone. Base movement speed on land varies for everyone. However you need an fly mount to fly and they add +0.5m/s to +3.3m/s

    With your Dark Lords you fly at 8.3 m/s.

    Again: base flying speed for ALL classes is 5.0 m/s. Aerogear then adds onto that.

    Meaning that, with Dark Lords, you travel at 5.0m/s + 3.3 m/s = 8.3 m/s.
