What can an archer tank?

    Without a charm, I was able to tank the following bosses using armours which are like at max +3 refines (i know i know they sux)

    1.) All FBs till 89 except Pole and Nob -> BB and cleric heals where applicable.
    2.) Nightspike Bloodguard -> Actually soloed this thing twice for guildies using normal pots and a couple of TB foods.
    3.) FC bosses except Fragrance -> I didnt like this run that much since i prefer killing while being semi-afk
    4.) TT -> Astral only since my faction barb would usually be present anyways and doesnt like me tanking when hes around <.<


    Basically a good way to determine what your archer can tank that, any ranged magical boss that does not 1 shot you can be tanked rather easily if you know what youre doing. This is because you would have sufficient time to heal up or use protective skills while they cast. This would also give clerics more time to heal you.

    Melee physical bosses with debuffs are a little more challenging tbh. Need to be a little quick in using the right skills at the right time.

    So yea there are many things an archer can do but people prefer the standard barbarian to tank since theyre too scared to try different methods.

    To get an idea if you can tank a boss, I would go to pwdatabase and look up its maximum magical and physical attacks, and figure out if I could get enough damage resistances and reductions to survive both of them together. (With cleric blue bubble, several clerics providing iron hearts, and the best buffs from a barbarian, cleric, psychic and blademaster, and a barbarian handy to pull aggro off me when my health dived too low, I was able to melee tank Hornska, wearing +5 gear (and +3 rings).

    Ugh Wur and Ape 2-3 I've both tanked. Don't see how it makes sense tanking Wur with only 1 cleric, a lot of barbs back in 8x-early 9x wouldn't even do that, so why should I considering I have less hp and no natural interrupt? As for Ape, if you don't have purger he's a ***** for any tank anyway.

    Key for me was being in BB and using Demon Wingspan to survive til the next spark. It depends a lot on your clerics as well as the rest of your squad. "I tank something" is really only half of the story, if you have a good squad, the whole squad works together to make it work.

    But you must have much better magic defenses than they do, and wurlord has higher magic attack than physical attack. :)

    Not that much. 2k more magic defense isnt going to mean much when you have 6k hp instead of 12k hp and the magic attack hits you for 3k.

    I really don't see it happening with only one cleric until the 100s.

    Oh and on topic, just about anything providing you have insane refines. I hear Asty poo tanked harpy the other day so that's saying a lot.

    On my level 82 archer, I have tanked all FB 19-69. Yes nob and pole to. 2 cleric with purify claws = no 2 shot.

    I've also tanked drum and soulbanisher in 1-2, astral in 2-2 full buffed, and a 72 veno and 2 level 80 bms ganking me in pk. and i won :)
    AP classes are a real butt pounding...

    In my experience, with the right gear and right cleric(s) u can tank just about any bosses. To my surprise i can tank bosses in tt2-3. Yes i use fist when i have to and i have decent/above average aps. And i have a good amount of HP. Overall, i love to tank =P Doesnt hurt to try and test the waters.

    Im a 99 pure dex (vit and mag are 3) demon archer with Heaven Shatterer +8 for pvp and Gorenox Vanity +5 for pve. I have some interval gear (lunar cape, rank chest IV) and tt90 green and gold (havent farmed 99 yet). I have close to 6.3k hp unbuffed (8k + with barb buff) and 2.22 dps with fist in normal attack and 2.86 with demon spark.

    Saying all that, i can practically tank every boss until tt 3-1. I usually steal aggro with fist or bow even without sparking (high refines) so, i naturally leave myself tanking while a cleric does a BB.

    The only bosses that i find kinda hard and i really dont wanna risk it is where i would need more than 1 cleric to do it with my archer or the ones that does debuffs. I wouldnt risk my party since i also have a level 93 barb with 15k hp that can do the trick as well :3

    I firmly beleive that when an archer with demon spark tanks everything is more enjoyable because most DDs can keep sparking all the time without worrying in stealing aggro... cuz it wont change :3 which makes bosses go absolutely fast! The BM does DG and everyone else triple spark and voila! boss will be dead in less than 1 minute :3

    Ilenka with that hp and 2 clerics you can tank Belial.

    You can easily tank 3-2 and 3-3 Emperor with 2 clerics also (or one with sage vanguard spirit buff and decent level).
    You can tank 3-2 and 3-3 both sleep bosses (the green pants mat one and the one on top of the balcony, I suck at remembering names in this server) with 1 cleric only.
    You can tank metal boss in 3-2 with BB.
    You can tank snake boss in 3-2 and 3-3 with BB (but it will **** your charm sometimes if you use one).

    When you reach 10,5k+, you can also tank GBA boss in 3-2 and 3-3 with a cleric having sage vanguard spirit buff.

    <3 Archers, and you should love and believe in your class more.

    People would learn they can do a lot more than they think, if they started trying instead of yelling for barb.
