I have a friend that got all her armor pieces and weapon to +7 by:

using mirage to get to +3
then use tienkung stones(greatly increase refine chance) to make it +4
then finally using tisha stones(increase chance of successful refine and only decrease refine lvl by 1 if fail) to get it to +5, +6, +7

anyone know if this method really works? and if yes, how much would it cost approximately? ty b:thanks

Yup, it works great, in fact. Here's the thread: http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=541751

The cost is roughly less than half of what it would cost to use Dragon Orbs. If you follow the link you can find a spreadsheet that will show you exactly what the average cost would be per piece.

Keep in mind, though, that it can take a long time and a lot of people don't like the risk involved, even though the odds are very heavily in your favour.

I do that too with mirage to +3, tienkang to +5, tisha to +7/8.

Its hard to say costs since often it takes just 1 mirage to make a +6 item +7. I'd say:

    +3 = 30 mirage
    +4 = 50 mirage
    +5 = 100 mirage
    +6 = 300 mirage
    +7 = 800 mirage
    +8 = 1500 mirage

Yes, works great for armor and ornaments. Weapons, if you have bad luck will be cheaper to orb, if you have good luck you'll save roughly 30-50%.

Some items may actually end up costing you more than if you would orb, but if you refine all your gear like this, you'll save tons overall.
I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.

    It works fairly well.

I've had horrible luck with my weapon (1k+ mirages and over 30 tisha stones only to get +4), but I don't mind trying it again once I have like 2000 mirages and 50 tisha stones.

Just last week or so, I refined my hat. I started with 150 mirages and 20 tishas. The hat was +3 and dropped to +0 2-3 times. Now normal people would have stopped here. I didn't. So I used just mirages from 1- back to +3, then used tishas to +4, +5, +6, +7, then +8...in a row. Literally no fails in between. I didn't check how many mirages I used, but I used 13 tishas. Funny story--I wasn't even expecting it. At +6, I thought that if I go down to +5, I can stop. Then it hit +7, and I hit it again thinking that the worst that can happen is +6. It went to +8 and that's where I stopped, because I had no reason to +9 this hat that I'm most likely gonna nirvana, lol!

Now my luck ran out while trying to +6-7 my cape. I ran out of mirages and it dropped from 5-0 then back to 3.

Like a friend of mine said, if you have the resources to do it, go right ahead, but if it goes wrong, make sure you can get it back up to +3 at least.

judging from the responses... if ur moderately lucky it would cost round 10 gold to get 1 piece of equipment to +7.....correct? xD

Your chance of refining to +7 using 10 Gold (approx value 4 million) is 20%, so yes.

Realistically, though, the average cost on Sanctuary using Mirage/Tienkang/Tisha is about 15.5 million, +/- a couple million depending on how much you pay for your Mirages.

Using Dragon Orbs bought from the cash-shop, the cost is about 48 million, but chances are people will get them for cheaper, so the real cost is probably more like about 38 million.

Maybe hes friend was too lucky. So he wanted to hear if more people did it too and got same or similar results.

And since most of people said that it's true, well, looks like it wasn't just luck.

And that was the result the OP wanted to hear.

Or maybe, he thought it was a joke and didn't believe his friend that much, so he came and asked.

i finally had the mood to do this and last week i got 3 pieces to +6 from +5.

two of them failed and went back to +5 and one of them pass and went to +7. I can tell you this, the amount i spend in trisha, teinkang and mirages maybe have amount to no more than 25 mil for 1 +7 and 7 +5.

I'm going to try to +6 several armor if i am in the mood tonight or tomorrow.

I'm totally going to try that on my wep and become a superpsy for many levels. Not like I'll get help for my token quests anyway.

Weapons are significantly more expensive than armour. Doing the brute force method, the main cost is mirages. For example, the statistical cost of me refineing my shoes to +7 going based on the prices on HT is about 14mil, but refineing my bow to +7 would cost me nearly 22.8mil. This is also taking the cheaper route, going by the same methods I would use for refineing my shoes, it would cost me 23.3mil statistically.

Also, after +8, its typically recommended that you use d orbs, as they're typically cheaper. Use a 10 star d orb to get +9 refine, even a month or so after the sale, and with blood thirsty, price gouging, baby eating merchants, its typically half the price to buy a 10* off someone than to try to make your own 9*.

heres my result.... 31 tishas, 5 tienkungs and 340 mirages used...

got my cape from +4-+5, tt99 leggings from +4-+5, tt99 wrist from +4-+5, my helm from +4-+2 lol

heres what happened... i got my cape, legging, and wrist to +5 with 3 tishas and then got my helm from +5-+6 but then i thought hmmm maybe i try go +7 and it failed so it went down to +5, so i gave it another shot and got +6 and then tried +7 again but failed again so its +5. I thought hmmm i'll stop at +6 but then failed when i tried so its +4.... lil did i know this is when i started spending more then i expected.... +4 helm, i tried +5 it and it went to +3 and so i tried to get +4 and it went +2 and tried to get +3 but went to +0... ok so i used the remaining 5 tishas to get it to +4 and it worked.

I woke up the next day to attempt +6 again, i refined it it went from +4-+5 and then i tried +6 but failed so its +4 so i say np and tried to get it to +5 and it suceeded and so i tried +6 again and it failed... now its +4 and by this time i only had like 70 mirage and 5 tishas left. so i tried make it +5 which i most of the time suceeded in doing so and it FAILED so now my helm is +3 i tried to get +4 with another tisha and failed so its +2... i tried +3 with mirage and FAILED so its +0 so i kept trying couple time to get it +3 again with mirage and only suceeded once in doing so and used my last tisha to try get it to +4 but it FAILED so its +2 and so i conclude that even with this method... refining can be hard on u sometimes eventhough u are lucky at 1st but don't expect ur luck to last long :P

sry if post might be confusing XD

Its kinda luck based, like everything in this game. Can cost a few mirages and 6-10 tisha or a freaking fortune and you end u broke with +1 gear.

People i know that successfully mirage/tienkun/tishad equipments to +8 are also very very lucky in general. They always get nice stuff if they open 50 lucky packs, they always get gold mats in HH99. They also get Stone barrier, Summers sprint, Demon Quick Shot or Hp buff when they open a book clips.

So if you're a less lucky person like me, a bit below average. Than id say dont bother trying to go above +6 unless you use orbs b:chuckle. Might even wanna stay at +5.

I got about 5 pieces to +6 with thienkun/tisha. Even tho i failed several times, in the end its slightly cheaper than orbs.

Grade makes no difference to rate of success, but I realize that I come across as kinda just a mad prophet in the wilderness, endlessly repeating his particular ramblings to the skeptics. b:chuckle

You're right about grade not affecting the success rate, however I'd say that we are the skeptics, since we don't believe whatever baloney Duke Blacke and other players say affect refining rates without objective evidence. b:chuckle
