Rolling a wizard is a total masochism from lv1 to lv90.

From 90 to 100 it becomes QUITE decent.

If you are 100+ and got CSer/nerd farmer gear, then you are god-on-earth.

The only things that a good wizard always need, are endless PATIENCE & CONSTANCE.

I remember my most hated levels were 45-55 range, but when i was that level BHs weren't implemented yet.

If you have much much patience, you can get good even if you dont play much or u dont cash shop, but it could take months and months, even years.

I wont suggest you to roll a venomancer: its the easiest class on PW, u just need to keep pressed on same skill and u can kill everything wich moves around you. I tried it and got immediatly bored of it.

If you want to have fun in pvp without spending too much time in getting strong, i suggest you one of the tideborn classes, wich seems fun to play and quite easy to level up.

If you instead like pve, i suggest you to try cleric or barb. They are both quite good and, most important, they are loved in parties (and extremely needed as well lol)

Thanks man that is the explanation I was looking for. Maybe my mystake was to try BoI before trying PWI and the magus over there and the heretic are kickass good classes. I thought that I will try PWI I like the classes here but I see that they are way different than BoI

Been a wiz since Jan 2009, have tried all the classes would not reroll for nothing.

This may sound patronizing or repetitive but "know your class" keep the pots that drop, max morning dew when you get it.

after SS and glacial snare the wizzy power starts to grow. after 79 its awesome, after demon/sage it is epic.

I never once regretted rolling a wiz regardless of low HP, like stated earlier KITING is key.

    Force of will is key

LA before 80 is also another decent thing(don't listen to naysayers, i was LA until 94)

Wizzy is a tedious and expensive class, but filled with 100% USDA recommended allowance of WIN.

Dude wtf? Wizards are a damaging class so they kill mobs fast (albeit slower than psychics)... how can a barb take less? The "tanking" classes that can get hit and survive are just for the lazy people who can't think of strategy or don't have reflexes to run away, but instead just auto-attack a mob and drink pots from time to time.

Of course, not implying all tanks are that way... just saying that, as a wizard, you can't really expect to push a button and survive just like that. But this doesn't mean wizzies are SLOW, it only means you can't be lazy. In fact they are faster than most classes.

For me it was easy no questions about it.

Perhaps you have never met a good tank, or did not know enough to recognize one when you were in his presence. But your statement here is just wrong.

Well... if I were a barb, I would try to do a lot of my grinding and questing helping others out, and that would include FBs, FCCs and Rebirths, and also TTs and other such things so I could get good gear.

So, I would expect to be facing challenging opponents, and I would expect to be giving my skills and genie a thorough workout in some situations.

    Since you asked...

i always said wizard is no first-to-pick char

    tread over then ^^

    uh and barbs.. barbs

i play one sometimes.. he quit and left his account for his own faction he left..
so i do his OHT/daily/Xeno-thingy sometimes for the cash
needs 10 x the time my wizard needs for it, and is close to getting killed sometimes
    /magic hits hard -.-

    @grinding

try: wizard+archer, timing aoe knockbacks lol,

    . . . . LA before 80 is also another decent thing(don't listen to naysayers, i was LA until 94) . . . .

    ^ this.

I have a 9x wiz on 2 servers. First wiz i did the "go pure, man" thing until like level 30 or 40. It was aweful. Arcane armor and you die from every boss's aoe. Kiting everything gets really, really old, at least for me. And more often than not you are kiting away from one mob only to aggro another. b:bye

Wear light armor, shard with citrines, refine to at least +2 (very easy). Keep light armor till AT LEAST 80, most likely all the way until level 90. At level 90 you can get the TT90 green arcane armor which, combined with your 9x damage and the higher hp you get from refining the TT90 over the lower level gear, makes you a good killing machine that can actually survive. Till 90 though, light armor lets you take some hits, and you will crit so often that that alone make this build much more fun, at least for me.

The one drawback is that you have to spend at least 10-20 gold to shuffle your skills around at level 90 using the reset notes they sell in the cash shop. Unless you are buying your levels with orcales and hypers, or spending 5-10/day on the game, level 90 is a good ways off so you get alot of fun play time for that $10-$20 as opposed to the frustration of playing arcane.

The other draw backs that people claim are that your magic damage is reduced by too much to make light armor work. But the additional dex points you have in your gear make you crit more, and I still had no problem pulling aggro as a light armor build, so the damage output is not all that bad, at least under level 80/90. The difference is, if you do pull aggro, you will not be dead like you would be with an arcane build.

Unfortunately, you have stumbled on one of the topics most likely to induce flaming. There are whole threads on the forums here with people shouting about light armor sux, you are fail if you do it, etc. I've done it both ways. Kudos to the folks that level arcane from day 1. For me, that much kiting, that much dying (trust me, they die alot no matter what they say), just isn't as much fun as being able to deal with an accidental extra mob getting aggroed, or seeing crit float above the boss every 4 hits in big, red letters. b:victory Can it be done? Sure. Do I ever WANT to play this game that way for 80 or 90 levels? Er, no. b:surrender

P.S.: At level 87, I tanked through stage 9 of Delta without dying once (failed at Stage 9 cuz the barb got 1k'd). I'd like to see how many tt80 robes can do that . . . .

    hi bloodystic :d
hope u learned how to kite properly now b:chuckle

i had slightly increased vit, had to restat at 89 too.. but it was only 1 reset note for me
since i heard "you need XY HP to survive TT1-1 drum boss"
then, sadly i added like 20 vit beforehand (dunno long time)
only to notice i was far from dying, cleric or veno dies before i die, even with more hp (stone barrier ftw?)

rebirth is harder for arcanes yes
u have to admit, stealing aggro with low defenses is kinda suicidal
la provides u less aggro and more def lol, result is u survive

thinking, planing, to spend gold on your wizard in the first place (plan 90restat) is no bad idea
as you wont be able to just farm your gear past 95 anyways...
hence ur kinda useless in the farmable instances

but i still think succesful kiting pure wiz can lvl and grind faster D:!
heck, die 20 times jumping in mobs and u wont do it again lol
FAIL to LEARN, no i mean LEARN to FAIL urr LEARN by FAILING D:

ur control/safety/kiting abilities are not only distance shrink D:
Maxed FoW and Phoenix? 59 sutra town portal !!! XD

woaaah there are genies now, didnt thought about that

i made a HA wizz (lowest potentional dmg and still with fb19 wand XD) lv31 in 2 day without any exp boost so not hard the wizz just allways must lv the few base skill and use the best combo (pure mag was a it easier but u must run away when 2 harder mob running after u but i liked better with a bit more dmg XD).
