Getting a cleric to 20.

I haven't played as a cleric in a long time, so my alt is currently stuck on level 17. Why? Constant dying. I'm not complaining about leveling or anything - I'm just asking for strategies for fighting melee mobs because she can't kill two mongooses without dying sometime in between. I'm doing a Whirlwind/Plume shot combo with IHs thrown in when I lose health, but it's hard to keep myself alive for very long.

"Kiting" is what you want to do more often, most likely. Do your Whirlwind/Plume combo, run away a bit, then do it again. It takes some practice, but when you get used to it you can kill mobs without even being hit. In hard cases, stack three or four IHs before you attack.

you shouldnt take on 2 mobs at a time and do you wear p.def oraments those help alot against melee mobs a bit of IH, whirlwind and plumeshot did the trick when i stil played my cleric but i quitted it at 4x(out of boredom and the massive amount of mp pots i needed for bh) also if you have your p.def buff already try to keep it lvl based maxed

anyway thats all i can think of

?when u die a lot, u may have to much of vit (or dex maybe lol):P
vit makes your attacks and heals weak
u need less hits per mob with more mag power >.>

dont try multiple mobs in that lvls... fly away when u see urself aggroing more mobs

try to pick one mob and kite away with only whirlwind (run backwards after every cast :P)

or simply get 2 more lvls grinding on easy mobs and come back with advanced gear and pwn

Vit gives your HP more points. It doesnt do anything to your magic. But taking away too many points from magic does show in questing/grinding.

Anyways, you didn't really give that much details, like your build...but I'll give you some general tips.
Always buff yourself with whatever buffs you have before you start killing anything.
Use cyclone first so you have time to plume before you kite (though I rarely do that myself, even on my wiz).
Make sure to IH before the mob hits you, because physical mobs interrupt spell channeling.
Always stay on top of leveling your heals, because if you can't heal more than you get hit, you'll die or have to meditate all the time (like after every mob).
For increased mag res mobs, use plume shot only and kite.
And have an easy button for flying. If you see you've bitten off more than you can chew just press that button and escape is within your grasp :)
    Reichle lvl7x cleric | Neithin lvl5x barb | Tigressi lvl3x veno | Etheriali lvl3x wiz | Goldeeni lvl2x sin | Lilaq lvl2x BM | Fuegai lvlx archer | Whiteney psychic not created yet >_>

Yes, I love PWI that much. Every class is awesome in their own way.

Since IH doesnt heal the instant you cast it throw on one or two BEFORE you go after a mob, pretty much the moment it hurts you at all, your hp will jump back to full. Also for melee mobs the geanie skill earthquake does wonders, by the time they get close to you they are half dead, you push them back with quake, and kill them as they run back. It made melee mobs for me a piece of cake at lower lvls
Yeah my sig doesn't match my name...i would say im being all clever and trying to confuse people...but im really just too lazy to make a new one

As a cleric, you'll be dying A LOT. And by a lot, i mean a whole lot. It's worse in higher levels, what with BH (which I think you're familiar of, judging by your avatar) and TT.... although, at those levels, it's a lot less about squishyness and a lot more about people who don't know how to play their class.

Make sure to keep up to date with your skills (prioritize, of course- check junk's guide?) and gear. I remember at one point, I had to suck it up and buy new boots for the NPC because mine were drastically underleveled (about 30-40 levels behind? b:shocked) and there were none in the AH b:surrender.

Against ranged melee mobs, you might want to thow in an extra IH before attacking. Add vit if you think that you're lacking HP. Try kiting (although be careful where you're running) and, if in doubt, jump up and fly away =P. I was pretty stubborn at my younger levels- "No, I'm not gonna die... this mob can't kill me....... damn."- and everything. It's a lot less shame to fly up and wait for the mob to reset while healing than to spawn in town, lose exp... xD. So yea. Good luck- have fun?

As in, the squishyness or the dying a lot? o-o

Dying: I did D= did I miss the memo? x.o

Squishyness: I do see your point there. Although, it might have something to do with my natural magnetism to people who don't know what they're doing.

I remember dying so much that I had to resort to grinding back to exp >: (being too cheap to CS... >_>). (Pure arcane + mediocre gear --> got one shot by drum in mid-6xs through BB by his aoe. ow.) Maybe it's just me. =/

TBH....I think all classes die about equally in the beginning...

You just made it sound like Cleric's die all the time when in fact I see other's die more...truly depends on the situation.

...like wizards? o-o. Sorry about the misunderstanding- I guess from personal experience, I died the most in squads... various...reasons... uh....

Correction?: All classes have strengths and weaknesses, and they'll all die a lot at lower levels. Be attentive, make sure to be up to date with your stuff.

    ^sound better?

    +1 all classes,
    uhm maybe barbs die less...
and a veno shouldnt die much... (but they do)

#1 reason for clerics to die
heal aggro or tank down ^^
    #2 die in aoe

my ingame wife (cleric) had several frost runs that made her end up with less Exp in the end..

    .
before tideborn update i say wizards dies most times
there was times when a day with only 1 death was a good day

now that we have assasins ...they get aggro and die, aggro die aggro 2shot(buff) aggro 1shot

    (everything pre99 ofc)

*facepalm* lvl 17 and already complaining of deaths not a good thing. b:chuckle
The life of a cleric is to die die die lose exp and come ress everyone else so they lose less exp, YES THATS IT (at lower levels).

As for you, which havent started bhs still, you may want to do the next when attacking more than one monster.

    1. Stack Iron Heart on you atleast 3 times.
    2. Attack one of your enemies.
    3. By consequence if they're close together you will find some monsters will aggro some others dont, in case you aggroed more than one monster use Great Cyclone to lower one of the monster's speed.
    4. Use plume shell and stack iron heart again.
    5. Start attacking, plume shot + great cyclone (if you have other skills at higher levels use them within 12 seconds)
    6. After attacking 2-3 times, stack IH again.
    7. Repeat 5 and 6 till both mobs are dead.

Note in instances in the other hand, do never heal a tank (person being the monster punching bag b:laugh) if he/she started aggroing monsters AND HASNT ATTACKED, nor attack first, else you if you do either of these you will aggro the mobs = you dead = everyone else dead b:surrender = you have to warp away from the instance, lose exp and come ress everyone.

AMEN, THE LIFE OF A CLERIC.

    but then again i'm only 65 =/

(As I said, pure arcane + mediocre gear? in case you didn't catch that part- I had minimal hp then. x.o i'm pretty sure he hit me for about 1.7k through BB... was give or take 100 hp short i think x.o). Now, though, I've been adding more vit so the dying rate has gone down =3

I died mostly when tanks had no idea about healing aggro. After spamming in chat countless times, I'd most likely end up having guilt overwhelm me, heal, watch all the mobs aggro, pop a plume shell and hope I don't die x.o

Most of the time, around then the tanks would realize and hit a few more, getting them off me... eventually, I'd either die or all the mobs would be dead =D (and I do remember at one point, a tank said to me "Why did you attack?!" when I heal aggroed the mobs off him in a guilt fest...) <--- Yea. Don't do that. Cleric dead makes situations worse, not better x.o

(Of course, I'm working on my resolve to just sit there and let them die. It's not working out too well =/.)

At low levels though, although this was just my idiocy, I'd attempt to kite, run into a bunch of other mobs and die. Yea, pretty fail. From then, I'd just ironheart before the fight and cyclone + plume shot it to death. Worked so much better x.o

^ answering those questions of how to die at level 20s? =P

To deal with multiple monsters at once:

Choose the weakest mob,-- Cyclone,-- IH,-- Plume (may stall for 2 or 3 times),-- IH, --Earthquake from Genie, --Cyclone, --IH 2 times, Cyclone and so.
U may need 1 mana pot in process.
I don't recommend fighting more than 2 monster for your lvl.
