PhyDef or HP shard

mub

My last post was asking about wheather i should put in vit or spam hp shard instead. I decided to go pur mag and not put in any vit , however, another question arose, should i put in HP shard or Phy Def shard???? Note : My hp is very very low compare to others,
1.7hp, lvl 79. I kinda wanna go with HP Shard coz i have plume shell when dueling physical users, but i depend mainly on my hp and IH stack when dueling magic users. So, plz help me , and explain both sides if possible.b:thanks

HP shard vs p def shard

can be summed up easily, clerics needs to have some HP(at your level, a HP of about 3k buffed would be nice), and those who cannot afford to heavily refine their gear will go mostly HP.
they also argue their position by saying stacking def has a diminishing return, the more def you have, the less damage reduction you gain(in %, scroll over your p def in character menu to see it)

p def users will say their game play have improved alot since sharding p def, etc ,etc


my advice is to mix the shards, use pwi calculator to find the ratio you are happy with.

and don't use tt70, or green tt80 gears for your armor. instead, try to look for nice blue or purple gears with all elemental resistance with good add ons like +HP or +def so that you have more survivability.

ps: if you have not planned or gotten your level 80 gears yet, I would suggest TT80 gold chest and boots because those 2 are really useful and it would be hard to find a better replacement for them until much much later.

From the opinion of someone who gave his cleric p.def shards, cleric have a buff for p.def but we need to find a barb for an HP buff. My cleric never got past 6x though and **** changes quite a bit after that so my reasons could be obsolete at your level (or if you have lots of luck with finding nice barbs).

Mixing shards would seem to be your best bet. It doesn't matter how much p.def you have if your HP pool is so low that 1 hit takes off half your HP (which sometimes happened on my cleric despite having 3-4 socket gear filled with average/beautiful garnets) and having lots of HP is useless if you take more damage than you can heal because of low p.def.

Honestly, in my opinion, just shard w/ the one that's cheapest(unless you're putting in 4 immaculates). Say for me...I have 2 flawless garnets from the nien event and a citrine from idk where. So I'll probably put those into my armor. you'd be better off saving the money for some cheap mirages for a little refining or maybe some orbs.

If you're too poor for fashion and you want to make your armor look cool then just stick to one or the other. If you're uber rich and you can afford 4 immaculates in your HH90 set then stick to 1 particular set of stones and maybe go HP on top and phy deff on bottom. That way you can show off in dungeons.

Personally I put in a mixed bag of phy def and HP with a range from average stones to perfect stones.

Reichle - Sanctuary

Well, since you're pure mag, you'll have to go with citrines. Wear physical defense ornaments, and I think when those are refined they add even more defense. Plus a lot of good armor has +69 physical defense (or more) on it.

I have 51 base vit, 75 vit with my armor on. My HP is 2.5k unbuffed and 3.2k with barb buffs.
My physical defense (i shard with garnets) is 1.5k, 2.4k buffed (with just my buffs) and over 3k with squad buffs (barb, BM). I shard all garnets.

So since you're pure, that's why I say citrines. When you get to 2k HP unbuffed, then worry about physical defense.

one thing for sure i never heard a cleric post how happy they were when they switched from pdef to HP shards in the cleric forums. I have heard alot of praise from the opposite tho. (hp to pdef)

Diamond of Dragons/JoSD @90+ obviously. Defense can easily debuffed by a number of skills, but only 1-2 (maybe rarely used as well) that affect your defense level. And they affect both physical and magic def too.

well i dont agree that you should even consider full def sharding at lvl 79. (unless you have very high vit....)


phydef vs hp debate ultimately boils down to how much can you refine and what is end game to you?
-but i would have to agree that switching to p def sharding is more rewarding for me. i still use mixed sharding because i have a poor man's refine

please dont make me dig up my calculations on how DoDs and JoSDs are useless unless you have a solid base stat defense to begin with...

adding DoDs or JoSDs to a cleric who has like 1.5k phys def is a waste... you are adding %s of nothing to nothing lol

if you are going to spend 20 mil on a JoSD then you might as well buy garnet gems- because they will do you more good in the end if you want Pdef... if you want more magic res.. then go for JoSDs but like i said before... if you dont have good base stats when it comes to defense level gems then GG...

i had base vit20 and sharded pdef main since i think past 75 (i know my TT80 was sharded garnets) From start to endgame i was garnets and never had any problems PvE wise. Cant say much for TW wise at that lvl cause this was tws back in 2008.

what they said. Its like gaining 10%increase out of 1(us), while the melee are 10% increase out of 100

What was your gear's refine? If its like +2 or +3, you would be having like 1-2k hp unbuffed.

I take things one step at a time in terms of goals...easier to reach...need a new one though and it might be to refine my sad belt but I have been contemplating a new one...otherwise pretty much refine/more gems/Nirvana Pants [<- if i get motivated to farm for it but 170mill not bad]....Have not decided yet -.-

b:chuckle ya i have TT90 gold right now too... but the extra pdef stacks and multiplies and its easy to farm xD at least easier than people think.... its harder to farm the warsong belt than anything.

i will say hi next time b:cute TheDan and i were thinking of making characters on lost city- we talked to michael dark forever and brought him on vent... then we convinced him to come to sanctuary and check it out xD of course lost city is a little more interesting but meh... starting over is hard... especially after playing this game for almost 2 years.
