Dagger Deliberation/Dilema

I'm 85 and I'm thinking about daggers now. Right now I have tt80 hook and thorn. I know the ideal daggers would be tt100 but I have expensive gear plans as a priority, and it's pretty far anyways. I'm thinking maybe fc Ghost Cry since they'll last till I can get my 99 gear and I can focus on the 100s. Any thoughts/input?

Due to the good addon stats on the Ghost cry daggers, in combination with the rellativley high attack power, I think they are better then the 99 daggers actually, atleast back in the day when i checked, before the "new" hh daggers came... Either way, they hold their own really far up in the lvls. I am keeping mine till i get lvl 100 i think, so i can start working on nirvana0

Just equipped my ghost cry thorns yesterday and I have to say that I agree. Unrefined, I've got a solid 3-4k p attack and 25% crit. I'm in love b:dirty
And I hate to hijack your post, but I'm thinking of equipping an elemental stone to it (2 socket ftw) for the increased damage on normal attacks. Good idea/bad idea?0 -
No, that's a good question. How would sticking elemental shards in compare to garnets of the same grade?0
-
using elemental shards is actually ok....as long as you arent using skills. elemental shards give no bonus when using skills like garnets do
best bet is to go ahead and try it out if you have one. if you dont like it swap to a garnet. if you use skills dont even bother though.I hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of title, the character of an honest man. -George Washington0 -
Elemental shards add like twice the damage garnets do? Once I get my 90 interval gear together it'll definitely be worth it.0

I will get cheap dags and cheap shards of both types and get some numbers for you guys0
-
hm interesting... but doesnt the garnet count for more when you spark?0
-
I want to say that gem stones don't affect your weapon's base attack (only refining does that), which in turn means that they do not affect your sparked attack. But I'm honestly not 100% positive. I'll mess around with it later today and let you know what I find.0

Well I did some tests and the average of my hits with an Average Garnet-sharded weapon was 1602.7, with a standard deviation of 85.7 damage. The same daggers sharded with an Average Ruby had a mean damage of 1580.26 with a Std. dev. of 90.7.
That makes me sad because I wanted to be special/interesting lol.
However, you can afford higher level elemental shards for the same price as a lower level garnet, and I'm not sure how the higher level ele shard would stack up against a lower garnet, say flawless. So many variables0 -
What were you damage testing on? My main reason for using the elemental shards is for HA users. If you're testing on mobs or arcane the garnet shards would definitely show up as more effective even tho they aren't necessarily so.0

i'd like to know as well. try using PWdatabase to find a mob with low elemental defense. perhaps something like a wood mob and use a metal shard.
as to the garnet shards effecting spark damage they do. what i dont know is if the magic shards would get a boost when sparked or not, though since they dont work for skills i'm going to guess no. i could be wrong though b:surrenderI hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of title, the character of an honest man. -George Washington0 -
I was thinking more along the lines of a level 1 character where pdef and mdef would be completely minimal. Would be tedious tho to get more than a few measurements XD0

I went through BH39, which is mostly wood and metal mobs. You're probably right about the garnets being more effective against mobs. I was trying to decide what would be more effective from a PvE standpoint though, personally. Maybe if I had a set of ele dags and then some pve dags as well. That might work well in conjunction with the 79 water damage skill.0

they dont. the last 3 dont stack and i've never bothered checking the gem. if it does best you get is the gem and one of the last 3I hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of title, the character of an honest man. -George Washington0
