If you're a venomancer you will learn a skill called "Tame Pet" that will allow you to tame some of the monsters in the game. If you're not a venomancer, don't worry about pets because you can't use them to attack.

As for the genie, you don't want to get rid of your genie. Assign your genie 1 Wood, 1 Earth, and 1 Water affinity (it will need to be level 10 or higher since it starts with 1 unassigned affinity and gains 1 more affinity per 5 levels) and then have it learn Second Wind, and you'll be happy to have your lifesaving genie around. :-) There are lots of other useful genie skills as well. Take a look here for more.

Why does nobody ever tell people that genie skills use up stamina, and once it's run out it actually costs money to recharge it? Now I don't know how much it costs, but I doubt it's just one or two items.

And yes, all-class pets are merely a money sink as they are completely passive, just following your around. They don't fight, they don't pick up items, they don't provide any bonus. Only Venomancers can really use pets.
Slow progress, game is getting way too grindy :-( Quests I still hope to be able to do some day: FB39, General Feng

When your genie runs out of stamina you can relpace it using chi stones which you can get by docomposing equipment. My genie's stamina is currently full and I haven't spent any money to get it there. It's really not that big of a deal.
