I'm not so sure about this, but atleast I think I saw a thread about pw not working on mac.. and according to the thread there is no solution to make it work.

PWI on Mac should work with Bootcamp + some flavor of Windows XP or higher.

There are also programs for Mac like Parallels to make it work in an emulated enviroment.
I speak for myself. My opinions are my own.
Assuming I speak for others is therefor void.

Mac does not support windows applications. It is a complete different operating system.

If you're getting your computer for:

    - Homework (papers, research on internet, etc.)
    - Video watching, youtube etc.
    - MSN
    - Gaming
    - Facebook or w/e
    - Music downloading

    Get a Windows computer.

If you're getting your computer for:

    - Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Fireworks, Flash, etc.)
    - 3D Modeling / 3D Animation
    - Video editing
    - Sound editing
    - Image editing (photoshop is included)
    - Looks (mac gives certain "status" of a person, believe it or not, due to its "popularity")

Then get a Mac, mac does not have as many games as Windows does, for this reason I'd say you're looking more for a Windows computer. Mac is pretty much to work as I stated above.

If you get a new laptop though, you might want to check this thread:

Note: Laptops are not meant for gaming

I got a mac due to my major which entails a lot of computer media. I wouldn't recommend getting a mac if you're big into gaming, as macs are limited in that area, however, I run PW on mine. I use Crossover Games, however, like mentioned above, there are a lot of alternatives to run PC games on mac. I'd say, only get a mac if you Need one. If it were up to me, I'd get a dell laptop, however, I need FinalCut and other programs too much^^"

I totally prefer my MacPro. The Microsoft Word Office is much nicer on it, I prefer browsing the web on it, etc. It runs smoother and nicer than any PC I've had to deal with lately.
I use BootCamp and run Windows XP for Perfect World, and with my Mac's specs it runs at the highest settings without lag (even in West Archo!).
    My preference is clear <^-^>

Yamiino's comment is a bit out of date in my opinion... (How can you not work, surf, download on a Mac?) The era of Mac's being for artists is like so five years ago. I'd say 3/4 students at my college use Macs. Also I find being able to go to a Mac store for repairs and questions incredibly helpful.

    Don't buy a Mac.

They cost more, they are not more efficient for the same price, and they are much less versatile.

Macs are mostly to showoff "Hey look! I'm a rich kid! I own a Mac!"

That really depends on your OS preference, but make sure to check the specs before you buy, what graphics/sound card and processor you're looking into, and how would the specs help with your studies.

I bought a new Sony Vaio VPC EB13FX laptop 2 weeks ago just for school preferences and PW. I'm studying in a design major, so the PC laptop I bought works just as good as a mac, but again, it's my preference.

Also, PCs came out including their new Intel Core I3, I5, and I7 processor family. Although apple just released it on their computers a month ago, it is way too expensive compared to PCs. You're looking at $2,000+ here unless you're that desperate!

As a student, I wouldn't recommend something expensive, as technology advances so quickly, you could never catch up, lol. Try browsing around your local electronic stores or online shops. Here are some laptop to my preference that I would recommend in the $600-$800 range:

Good luck on your computer hunt. b:cute

I'd say either one is fine. If you got money, buy a Mac and use Windows at home and Mac OS at school.

No hatred I'd say. Simple plain truth.

In the past, Mac laptops were much better than the PC ones. But now, there is no difference in what both can accomplish. The only difference is that Mac cost more for the same power, they cost more to repair, they cost more to upgrade, they offer less choices in softwares, and free softwares for Mac are less numerous than for PCs.

Only advantage is that Macs are less prones to viral infections. But then, you can install Linux on a PC and be safe of viruses too.

I would recommend a Windows OS for any sort of gaming, personally.

Though Steam is on the mac now (Free portal to the end of the month for you guys, too b:dirty)
Bladestorm lets you spin around like a carnival ride and do damage. Not using it is almost like having a move called Confetti Rocket Power Leap and saving it for "emergencies"

Had my mac laptop for 3 years and just bought a macbook pro too. Bootcamp comes on all the new mac laptops. Been playing PWI with full settings quite well with XP. You do need a XP CD disk though. (had an old friend that use to say macs run windows better than other machines idk if theirs any validity behind that though)

Never had to send my macbook in for any kind of repair in three years, viruses aren't a worry with mac OS, and it's pretty user friendly (I like all the Microsoft word, excel, etc with it).

I'm a college student and only have run into one compatibility issue with powerpoint... but the professors computer was older than dirt. I did have one problem with PWI a few days ago but I believe it was because some files were deleted or lost in a hasty shutdown. Reinstalled and was good to go again.b:pleased

ok, Mac & Vista 7 both suck for a variety of reasons.

Find a backdated version of Windows XP & install it on a PC, will be much better then the current Windows OSs or Mac OS. Unfortunately they dont sell XP anymore... good old "discontinue the good product so we can force people to have to upgrade to the bad product & make more money" policy of Microsoft b:surrender

You can run XP through an emulated environment on a Mac, but its not the true OS. And that causes massive lagging and some compatibility issues with software. No you cant play PW on a Mac, nor can you play most other free games or use alot of software out there. The problem is Mac is in its own little world, not wanting to allow alot of software to be written for it outside of their own little inner circle. Windows based computers, while often having more problems, give you a much wider range of compatibility (its in fact the ability for wide ranged compatibility that creates the problems, its a much harder & wider range to control flawlessly). Mac's are only good if you're truely focused on its narrower range of things it excels at. If you prefer freedom and availability of choices, go for a PC/Windows system.
