My Barb Brothers...

Tonight, I caused my first squad wipe. I consider myself a competent barb, learn quick, do right and read alot. While I'm still fairly new to the game (3-4months) I stilll have lots to learn. Things that I can only learn from experience.

Anyhow, I was in a Rebirth Gamma today...my first one and everything was going fine for a while there. Squad members were nice and communicative, aware it was my first (BM was also new to Gamma) and as such things were fine. The basics I picked up quick, and for the first few rounds/bosses nothing was amiss. My issue was that I was running too far into the valley to grab aggro from the waves...too far from BB/eye. Even with dew I started to take more damage than was healed and I just died. "Fvck" I said, I knew it was the end. We tried to recover but buffless and other waves pouring in saw an end to that.

We got to about 500k exp, 200k coin and a few Immac gems...not bad, but I feel terrible for being the cause of these nice people's death. :/ Any other squad wipe I've been a part of have been due to someone else **** up....anyway I wanted to share and ask: Squad wipes - do they occur more often as you hit high 8x and the 9xs?

Rebirth Gamma also really made me appreciate my aggro and aoe skills. Nice to see everything clicking along, you really shouldn't have any issue with chi in that instance.

Off topic...I'm also finding it harder to keep aggro now with higher level bosses. Normally I hold it fine against DDs, but I was tanking Bloodstare in OHT earlier and was having a heck of a time...why is that? Squad was all around the same level, the archer was 87 (I was 81 @ the time).

Summary: Caused my first squad wipe in my first Rebirth Gamma, feel terrible. Have newfound appreciation for my barb aoe/aggro skills. Do squad wipes happen often during higher level instances?

The first time I did a Rebirth Gamma something similar took place.. Every barb has his own style of playing so hang in there and figure out what you've to do to tackle the mobs.. To help you out there are some guides out there but again don't take those guides verbatim..

Squad wipes in Gamma is normal especially for the first time.. The other instances do pose problems as you get higher in levels but not as bad as the Rebirths.. Once you start doing more of them you'll get a hang of it I am sure.. so don't lose your peace over it b:victory

Yes as you get to higher levels it gets harder to hold your aggro.. The problem: FR's effect changes a little while DDs dmg increases drastically b:sad .. But asking your squad to do less dmg in the initial stages of your aggro building would solve the problem..

b:embarrass you failed an rb.... lol... big deal...

Don't gather entire waves if you can't. I often saw barbs run out try to get all & die lol

Did you check up on that archer's gear? Maybe highly refed weap or he was going all out. With higher lvls especailly with +89 DDs keeping agro is kinda an issues if the DDs aren't careful.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up. b:pleased Every barb goes through it in one instance or another, so don't beat yourself up over it. Figure out what works best for you and stick with it.

The first time i did gamma the barb left at wave 5, and the bm pulled/tanked everything. We made it to the last boss and i went to repair my gear. When i was going back i accidentally used the "no no" pillar (Leave instance) and wuz very sad cuz they killed the boss D:

    I disagree.

In rb if the barb dies, there is a pretty big chance you will not recover in time to continue it (depends on rest of squad). Some just start dying at stage 1.... lol seriously... You aint gona learn or get to practise much if you can't evne get through half rb & you're failing your squad all the time.

Dont worry... you will have more wipes in the future!!!

Its normal, specialy for the first time, it happened with me too.

After gammas come fcc, I took 3 hours to learn it and wiped squad 2 times (I wasnt charmed), now I do it very easily.

    Gear can help a lot.

Don't feel bad if you caused a party wipe.

It will happen, and all you need to do is learn from you mistakes and keep trying until you succeed. b:victory

    Thanks for the replies guys....

I hear alot of barbs talking about being happy they levelled past Gamma range. I have another question, is is possible to save a run if you die? I mean in theory I could of resd' myself...buffed, hit a chi pot...and then roar/beastial rage to gain enough chi for 2 sparks....then sunder.

If i was able to do that quick enough would I be able to save my party?

Depends on a lot of things... For instance, did your squad survive after you die.. if it didn't and the bb is down, you wont be able to do much even after gaining aggro... So yeah, things like how squishy your squad is, how sharp is your bm (whether he stuns the mob or aggros as soon as he sees you die) and other factors come into picture...

If the squad survives then yes surely you can come back up and take aggro again.. roar + sunder would be a quick aggro shift towards you..

QQ I loved gama on my barb b:chuckle I was planning to farm it for spirit to lvl skills... But then was distracted by an idiot cleric b:chuckle who I always used to fight with during runs. I didn't notice my exp bar was almost full -.-

About recovering after a barb dies... Yea sure it's possible but as Cybe said depends on a lot of things: how exp, strong is the rest of squad; when did you die, were there many mobs left; how fast can u get bk. Some squads finish rbs without the barb there.

Though from my experience with the current RB squads, there is a VERY big chance you won't recover... um... most just do FCC since it's fast & safer than an rb that can be failed. Nowadays when I do RBs it's not for lvling , but just for fun cause I like it. A lot of inexp ppl, or at least not as good as the squads I used to play with when I was lvling my barb or cleric, where RB besides questing was one of the only ways to lvl & a lot of players wanted to learn & get into one.

Before Gamma i thought playing a barb was horribly boring and droll. NO skills no skills to play at all, but right about when i was going to quit that is when i started to GV. It was more of a challenge and somewhere skills can be appreciated b:victory

In GV I would not always go collect the wave, too much dmg and too much charm if i was wearing one. Nothing wrong with spreading a little dmg out, and spreading a little repair bill out. I mean the whole party has blue bubble so can stand a few people attacking them.

At high levels i have problems with aggro too, but that can be summed up nicely.

    Or

People who +10 lunar get aggro, die and then complain barb can't hold aggro.

Also squad wipe is nothing, come back after you cause a few faction wipes b:victory

Gate B boss during lvl 1 PvE TW. I thought there was only one of the mobs left, i attacked but it turned out there was still 2.

    "Omg who attacked"

    Me " i think it was X wizard b:chuckle don't blame me."

Haha! I must admit I found gamma exhilarating...I do enjoy a challenge. Like way back when I tanked my first pole/nob, it was easy but more to it than tanking 51/59. I like finding a system that works for cancelling out aoe/other channel attacks or debuffs.

My next thing to learn is FCC, I hear thats alot of fun as well. I have a tank build (I guess) and would like to get a Pan Gu axe @ 85. Whats best to refine that with? Attack? Def?

If you can imbue a Def gem then that would be great.. Since it's a tanking weapon a +def gem would make you last long.. Otherwise go with a Citrine stone/gem.. Nope, not joking..

Adding any attack shards on it wouldn't make much of a difference.. So adding stones that can help you survive better is the best way to go.. Have fun with ur pan gu b:pleased

Tips on FCC? I hear its arguably the most fun instance?

So, you think a barb will survive longer if he *isn't* charmed?

Or did you just not read what he said?

Squad wipes happen ^^ it's not a matter of your skill. Sometimes the cleric isn't just fast enough, or you just take freak damage. Don't feel bad about it. Just learn from it : P
