[Graphics] Soften or Not?

Just checking to see who prefers what setting.

I am still undecided as to whether I like it or not, somtimes it makes it look nicer, sometimes not so much.

    I hate it, it makes it look all blurry.

    If I was going for a screenshot of Sanctuary or something, I'd throw it on, but otherwise, no thanks.

    I prefer it on. Makes the game seem brighter.

    Yeah it makes somethings blurry, which makes them look uglier. such as stone work and some textures.

    I do think it makes the grass and flowers look better, and underwater too looks nice with soften.

    I use it when I show this game to my friends, otherwise it's always disabled.

    I always use Soften, except in FF and overly white areas where the white glow makes my eyes hurt.

    Use to have it on all the time, now turn it on only when taking screenshots (opposite of frankie apparently) It gets annoying after a while b:shutup

    i always got it on
    if turned off it the game might look more detailed but also extremly dull

    It's funny how in the old days, we had CRTs --- and complained that the color CRTs were so blurred compared to their monochrome cousins. Then TFTs got invented, and everyone was happy about not having to deal with blurriness and geometry issues anymore.

    Nowadays, we spend $$$ on gfx boards powerful enough to make the screen blurry again. I wonder whether tomorrow we'll spend even more $$$ to add geometry distortions back in...

    Makes the game look more lively and less dull.

    Ew. It makes it look all fuzzy and washed out, like an old movie's flashback scene. Off, whether taking SSes or not.

    I like it sometimes, but other times it just makes me feel like I am going blind, and since my vision has gotten very fuzzy over the past two years I don't like that. XD
    Other times it's kinda nice though. But in snow I just die by glow effects.

    Off, always. I'm nearsighted and turning it on makes me feel like I'm either not wearing my glasses or I've got fog on them.
    Bladestorm lets you spin around like a carnival ride and do damage. Not using it is almost like having a move called Confetti Rocket Power Leap and saving it for "emergencies"

    On a high resolution monitor it looks great, at low resolution it looks horrible... so it really dpends on what your viewing resolution is...

    If you're running it at 1440 or less, yeah, I'd probably leave it off.... if you're running high resolution, it does look nicer.

    I keep soften on ONLY together with sharpen.

    So, keep both those on for a nice look :)

    Could be a thing with being nearsighted, for some of us that hate it.

    Reference/comparison:
    Geforce 7800GT at 350/1100 (it won't go slower :( )
    1680x1050
    All game settings maxed, and shadows, sun/moon, vsync, and sharpen on.
    Texture filtering set to 'quality' (driver default, I think).
    Trlinear optimization, anisotropic mip filter optimization, and anisotropic sample optimization all on (sample optimization actually reduces IQ in PWI, and probably any other games with hilly terrain).
    AA 4x, multisampling for alpha
    AF 2x (I thought I was running 4x--I will be, now, but the SSs are apparently 2x)

    Warning: 3MB+ PNGs (host may have popups, too)
    Overlooking Archosaur's Lag District: soften off

    The leaves do look nicer with soften on, I admit.

    Thanks for the reponses guys, didnt think would get so many.

    i also wear glasses so that could be why sometimes soften i really dont like. Everything else is on and maxed, but generally soften is off

    As above poster said, I also like it for leaves and grass: soften on and sometimes the sun. But generally I prefer off.

    I used to hate it in the old times, and I had been playing this game for over a year without soften, but about 4 months ago my settings reset themselves for some reason, maybe because I was changing the resolution. So then I tried leaving it on, I don't know why, I guess I thought it would be nice to play the game on max settings and it would look better. But at first it was really annoying, everything seemed so blurry and soaked, still, I kept it on. Now, I've got so used to it that it just feels normal and I can't take it off, because then everything looks too sharp and weird. I don't see why people with glasses would have a problem with that, I sometimes wear glasses too and it seems perfectly normal to me when I have soften on.

    it does, however, make the game more bright and intesesting, but i still cant stand the blurry effect of it! b:bored

    I always keep it on... together with sharpen. I just really love the softer glow it gives the whole game and how the leaf and the flower.. and the.... geezz... Such a romantic b:surrender

    But seriously, I do believe the game looks nicer with it. ...And shockingly, I have horrible eyesight too b:shocked b:laugh
