Most people don't know of it, nor how to get to it.

Plus the 105k per Stake Stone is a little too pricey for some people.

Because the arena is not working. Nobody uses it because nobody can use it.

There's a couple different arenas, he's talking about the Cube arena specifically.

Telarith: Cube isn't unlocked until lvl 40. Look at his avatar, he is lvl 30. Which means he is talking about the DeatMatch Arena, which you can get to via the herc looking guy near the west arch merchant, not the cube.

I'm surprised anybody ever used it. People want a risk-free PvP area where you can just go in and attack each other for fun, and the Deathmatch Arena doesn't let you do that.

So instead people get their dose of mindless risk-free PvP in Dragon Temple, even though that's only once a week and it's in the water.

Actually, it's kinda fun, but really unfair. The team that spawns into the room first has the advantage, and it's usually gank them as they come in. It's also not free... I've done it twice and make a couple hundred thousand coin on splitting the stakes...

It's a bit more like 2nd/3rd room tourney, but you don't have chests to dig and the rooms are pk-enabled right when you enter.

It's also pretty confusing to run the first time and it's basically squad vs squad. Not really worth the trouble of doing if you're on a PvP server. Just find some PvP on the world map.

So Michael, Deathmatch arena is, at time of writing, available to use and fully operational?
I did a search about it a week ago, and there was nothing regarding use, and 90% pointing towards it not being functional and questions raised about why it wasn't working.

Albeit the threads/posts were fairly dated.

Are there any guides on how to use it? Can you call out another faction to get 2 squads ready and do a 12v12 with them? Or is it a completely shared instance where anyone can be anywhere at anytime?

Erm... last time I tried it was last October/Novemberish... Everyone entering needs to purchase a stake, it's like 100k ea pretty much, then you go to the npc with the chests, two rows for each deathmatch room... the squad leaders have to initiate the quest, then everyone has to dig a chest, then you go back to the npc and then accept the quest and get ported into the instance...

I really don't remember all the specifics, but it was a bit confusing... not straightforward at all... this was shortly after the npcs were introduced... everyone on the forums kept saying it was broken and did not work, and we got it to work on two separate occasions. As for it not working now, I don't know as I haven't done it in a few months, but the instance is still there, the npcs are there, and I'm sure if you know the proper order to follow you can still do it.

I think it's more effort than it's worth really, but as far as I know, there hasn't been a single GM or Mod commenting on it's actual status, nor do I know of anyone actually writing a guide for it. Sorry.

Thanks for the reply Michael. I really want to try it out. I might spend some time sussing it later, as risk free (Afaib) PvP would be incredibly fun, even if it does cost 100k, that doesn't take long to regain.

Call out factions to squad vs squad.

Me too, but only from places that don't have pup to go straight to cube instead of visiting DM arena.

I went in 2 times within the last 2 month,
first time we screwed up and bugged it ourself.

Second time which was about a week ago, everything worked fine.
Its fun for short while, but the place where you PK is way too small, you cant really practice tactics.
I'd rather have the real Arena opened, which is better for mass/group PK :D

Loved hangign around there on another PW version, you can even fly there, so can pretty much do everything.

For cube arena, unless something strange has changed, it's more like betting. Each team puts up a set stake, and winner takes all. So if you win, you end up earning money; no loss unless you lose.

For tactics, there is plenty to practice. It won't be the standard gank fare of everyone at max range and mix debuffs with high damage spike kind of gimp tactics. This one actually requires co-ordinated play to pull off a good victory. As in communicating, knowing each other's styles, and working them together.

For instance, veno and cleric are very popular targets right away, to remove the healing and purge. So cleric will need to be able to have their plume and 79 ready, along with some run skills/pots. If you have a BM on your team, he will likely be stun locking. So after they drake bash, drag your homicidal hopefuls behind you and pass the BM so they cross his 10 M range when he uses RotP to continue a stun chain.

More or less it adds a new dimension in tactics that even watching PvP videos isn't seen. Everyone is very obvious in what they're doing, whatever they go for is who they're attacking. In this you have your target, but you want to try to get them to fall victim to essentially side effects of a normal combo, so they don't realize they need to protect themself from it. And there'd be no telegraphing if it's pulled off well.

That's just one example, there is definitely more combos and tactics to be pulled off where it isn't quite the cut and dry affair usually seen. The only issue will likely be genies. Would be nice if they lock those suckers out, as 6 people just slamming down BR would be a new level of inane.
