Why do most people feel the need that they must remove or censor certain texts or people they don't like? Even if the other side is being annoying/spamming or if you need to focus on squad or faction chat, they're no point in removing it; even the worse of Worldchat/Horn spam is still enjoyable and it's not hard to focus on team or faction mates in the most dire of times. Blacklisting/forceful filtering is the worst and most extreme action you can take against someone and is incredibly disrespectful, no matter how disrespect the other person is being.

I still think gagging Duke was one of the worse things PWI has done.

It is similar in principle as enabling a pop-up blocker on your web browser.

If you are one of the rare individuals that is alright with pop-up ads, then I can see why you do not understand others' behavior.

OMG is my first reaction to this weird logic, but let me just humor it for a second. (Side note: I only have two people on my blacklist at the moment.)

Ignoring shows control and decency; blacklisting shows laziness and superiority.

I am controlling what I see by blacklisting them. I am being very descent by not stooping to their level and sending out messages that are disruptive. I am not being lazy, I am being proactive by preventing anymore of that persons messages disturbing my gaming. And Yes I am superior to them. Otherwise why would I need to black list them.

Think of blacklist as having a mod/GM power akin to banning and note how they only ban under the most extreme measures and with repeated violations (sans serious issues); however, also note that they are as objective as possible (where as blacklisting is purely subjective) and how they will listen to an appeal after the fact and redetermine their action (whereas it's oneshot with blacklisting).

This really has no relevance what so ever. The comparison itself is flawed. Of course the GM's play a mediator role. It happens to be their job?! Not mine. I raise my own kids. I don't have to raise others, put up with others, or immature adults.

    Blah.

I don't blacklist often, honestly. I think a big total of maybe 10 people throughout my year and a half have been BLed, mostly because they were being insanely annoying or very heavy nonsensical spammers.

I have heavy attention deficit problems; it really doesn't take me much to get distracted. If I have a fairly important part in a squad (tank, healer - sometimes both - or offtank) I feel I can't afford being distracted. Chat is something that DOES distract me from my tasks, and I'll become nearly antisocial when I'm a key member to a party (FC comes to mind). Unless the squad chats within the squads, I'll end up really quiet.

It's not willpower. It's my uber low attention span due to ADHD.

I don't WANT to deal with some of that **** in WC and in horn chat. So far I've always been able to take 'em off. I get annoyed, it goes off, that's all.

Let me answer the question directly...but with a personal touch.

Why am I so adamant about filtering/blacklisting?

Let me see...and count the ways...

    1) I don't want to know (as I said earlier) about every single bodily function you have performed in the last 24 hours.

    2) I like to be able to talk to my friends with minimal interruption, and that only if it fits within my Rule #1.

    3) If I want to know your drama, I will ask you about it. I don't feel that your dirty laundry needs to be put on display for everyone to see, so I refuse to see it.

    4) I am tired of the swearing, vulgarity, and overall trashiness of WC, and with PHs, it just got a WHOLE lot worse...

    5) I have a measure of self-respect, and feel that neither my mind nor my computer screen should be filled with your ****.

There, that is why I am adamant about filtering and/or blacklisting...Happy?

Whats really disrespectful is the trolling bait.

You can just as easily ignore whatever they say and simply ignore (it's called willpower and doesn't make you look pompous).

One might want to consider your motivation. Did you lose a new found griefing ability?

No, I think the first hunch was correct.
