Confused about pet skills

I have a glacial walker that started with lvl 2 icicle. Everyone keeps telling me that I need to get rid of it and get bash instead to hold aggro. When I read the description of the skills, it says that both do the same damage just bash is physical, while the other is elemental damage.
So if bash holds aggro by dealing high damage, why do I need to replace icicle with it if the skills do the same damage? Is there something that's not in the description that helps bash keep aggro by more than just damage?
I'm asking because I'd rather spend 600k to max icicle than spend 600k to get bash to lvl 2 and then another 600k to max it.

Bash will tend to do more actual damage to more enemies, being physical damage. Now, if you still have an extra skill slot, you could add Bash, giving you two aggro skills (a pet can have up to 4 skills, and the GW comes with 3).
If archers are stealing your aggro or something, then you just need to keep Roar leveled up, and use it every time the pet loses aggro."adults on HT is an ancient myth used to scare away the kids from stealing their parents credit cards " - Santacruz0 -
Um... if archers (or other DDs) are stealing aggro, roar isn't going to help much, unless the archer (or other DD) actually stops attacking, and lets the pet build aggro after the roar.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

What if they aren't and it is the pet bash is good skill to have to help hold it?Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.0
