Faction Icon Denied!

Yes it is the year 2010 and in the heart of the computer age and because my faction Dress2Kil has a number (2) in it's title apparently this makes it incompatible and PWI can not impliment our icon.

Last time i looked computers basic coding still uses 1's & 0's so how difficult can it be to rectify this problem, seriously.

We wanted DressToKill originally but, because of the 9 letter restriction we were forced to compromise and settled for Dress2Kil. The faction has been established for over a year and we do not want to disband it to make a new one.

After multiple ticket submissions we are no further forward however, they have assured us that this problem has been forwarded to the developers. Lets hope they fix this as soon as possible, because the icon is a nice touch and adds a liitle more personability to the factions.

Anyone else had a similar problem? leave your thoughts.

    It's because the game has 1's and 0's 1 + 0 = 1 not 2 GTFO.

    The code to recognise the number 2 is not 1 + 0 it is 00110010

    it's called Binary code!

    Actually, binary code always starts with 1. And 110010 = 50.

    Code for "2" is 10.

    Binary codes don't always start with 1's. but you are both wrong. Groovy is closer

    So instead of people being helpful and posting what was meant to be in the thread they just flamed, idiots.

    The icon i submitted was just added to the weeks long que's so i haven't had the same problem of heard of it either Pammy.

    Yes, our faction recently had the same problem. The following is an excerpt from the reply S3xy recieved:
    Unfortunately, we will be unable to process the faction logo as the faction name is incompatible with the number 3 listed in it.

    The naming filters may not be able to catch all types of naming, whether it is inappropriate or incompatible. When creating a faction name, please make sure that it is appropriate and compatible like character names. Faction names must adhere to the same policies and restrictions as character names. If the faction name is deemed inappropriate, the faction leader may be banned and will have to disband the faction. If the faction name is incompatible, there may be problems with newer features, such as having an available faction logo.


    If there is any resolution other than creating a whole new faction (sorry Sexy just wouldn't be S3xy) it would be wonderful to hear about it. I have noticed that Sexy&Wild has a logo. What is the difference between & and a number? My other question: If the name was not compatible why were the leaders allowed to make the name in the first place without at least a warning? Please, Perfect World, resolve this issue so all factions may have the benefit of an icon.

    ok so I can understand if there was a problem with things like "ɵ, ∞, ♀, ♂...." (Yes I've seen some of these symbols in faction names.) or what not but a number is usually generally recognised. Why is it not in this game? And like koko said, why is & recognised but not 2 or 3? I want to have a cool picture next to my faction name too b:sad b:cry

    This shouldn't be such a hard problem to fix should it pwi? b:puzzled

    There's so many things that needs to be fixed yet they don't fix it (i.e. Magic Shell doesn't override when re-casted on someone, the seamstress NPCs with their ugly faces now, etc). So doubt they're going to fix that anytime soon. As long as it can be avoided, they will avoid it.

    I believe (didn't want to double check all the numbers) but that page is wrong, that's not binary code. That's ASCII code, the code your keyboard works off of.

    P.S. ~ Not trolling nor flaming, just hate to see people like the creator of that webpage post incorrect information.

    Correct in that its ascii code, however whenever your computer hold a string of text in its memory, ascii code is what it uses. When dealing with characters used to form a word, the standard ASCII character set is used (in america, lets not get into wide sets & whatnot). Its a set of characters numbered from 0 to 255. this is where "alt+codes" come from. The characters 0-9 are ASCII code 48->57 (as for example 11 is '1'+'1' when dealing with text, not numerical values). Go ahead and turn on your numlock then hold alt & type 50 on your numpad. What appears? Thats right a '2'.

    The thing to remember is 'Dress2Kil' within the game's memory is a string of characters, not a number. So it is handled by text handling code, working on the ascii set. So the character '2' in text is the 51st (0 is the 1st) in the set of characters. So 50 when broken to hexdecimal (machine language) = 0x32, and in binary thats 00110010.

    So, if it's all just a string of numbers anyway, why would it have a problem distinquishing between the code of a number vs. a letter? I'm not a coding geek, just a gamer who wants an icon for her faction...

    honestly i have no idea. Its a string of characters, indistiguishable really between letter and numbers. I have no idea why it wouldnt work unless they somehow linked it to the same way it recognizes character names, and since numbers are invalid, maybe that coding is specially programmed to see numbers as delimiters (an end, a seperation to a new variable or line, etc) and thereby it ends prematurely trying to assign the icon to "Dress"[abrupt end] faction.

    I wish if that were the case they would never have allowed factions to be named in such a way as to be incompatible with their coding system. QQ

    Any geeks out there who can tell me if we should expect a quick fix or at least a little compassion?

    good thig about this little inconvenience: better faction logos for us.
    Dress2kill, same as S3xy or Un4given may not be the firstest to have logos - but with much more time to create a distinguished one we might have the logos that look bestest on the server in the end.
    and if not... woo hoo we are the ones not following every hype!!

    EDIT: Sorry, misspoke, factions names can have numbers, but the general policy for faction icons is that anything that doesn't get past the character name filter will not be implemented as an icon either.

    So, somewhere. Within the forrests of GMsAreBSingAgain-land. There are these unwritten rules. Which in the first place the GMS themselves have no idea about. Please direct yourself to the first unedited part of the post.
    Which then afterwards, you had to check with whoever knows, and found out that factions can have numbers in the faction name. And quickly you make up a rule (Yes, make up.) that if it doesn't pass the CHARACTER filter, it won't qualify for a logo/icon.
    Seriously?

    Flaw 1: Give my 6 years old brother a week, and anyone could teach him how to block numbers being made in faction names on a game. Why reduce the quality of the gameplay when it's YOUR fault to begin with?

    Flaw 2: What the hell does faction have to do with character creation? If the Developers in chongchingphoey-land decide to be lazy and not implement a simple filter for factions, then once again. Their/your fault, why reduce the gameplay quality of players due to your lack of. Hm, how to put it. Ah yes, common sense?

    Flaw 3: Where the hell do you get these rules? Are they made on the spot? I'd love to see one that will specifically state "If your faction has any characters/symbols/numbers in it that would be filtered by the CHARACTER creation screen. You will not be granted an icon/logo"

    Honestly, in my opinion or what I think it is. You're just saying that 'cause somehow the code is obviously **** something up so you people that get paid to "improve our gameplay experience" can't solve it or have no idea why the SQUIGLYLINE~ it's not allowing a logo to be created.
    Sooo, easiest way out? Make a rule and claim it's forbidden, teehee. Smart. b:chuckle

    You are sick, you need treatment. You go to the hospital, surgeon screws up. You die. He's only human, why belittle him?

    I can go on and on with these. Fact is, the Game Moderators (Or game masters, whichever they want to be =|) are paid to provide a service. Now, I'm sorry. I have experience being a Game Master on a game, for quite some time.
    And to not know things as simple as RULES. That says something about the quality of the staff, how much they care for the actual players. And pretty much, how interested they are in actually being of any help.

    This is, in the end a free game. But by no means does that make this a no-profit game. The GMs have a pay-cheque each month. I, as a player who also once in a while contributes to said pay-cheque. Do have certain expectations. I couldn't give a **** if they can't fix all the bugs. But seriously, making up rules? Not knowing how the game works? And then for crying out loud, instead of preventing it. They just make it an offense?

    I mostly agree that "hidden rules" are BS, but seriously - you just compared denial of pixels to the death of a human being?

    I get where you're coming from but... damn, it's just an icon already. 16x16, for a grand total of 256 pixels. Even for the poor folks still running on 800x600 res, that's less than 0.0006% of the screen.

    On topic: I have to agree with the fact that GMs have these rules that they don't even tell anyone. It's kind of tiring to try to convince people that something's against the rules when it doesn't actually SAY it anywhere, I just know it is from being a forum rat.

    Don't be so hard on the GM's its the idiots above them are to blame, the GM's serve as a focal target for all the hate and QQ while the Dev's ignore any feedback they get and insist they are making the game 'better' b:surrender.
