My characters have disappeared

I have no clue what the hell happened. My laptop has this stupid habit of going through a "lockup" phase, generally whenever Windows vista downloads new updates. The only solution to this is a system restart to a previous setting. Such an occurance happened tonight. I logged out of PWI, performed my system restore. Redownloaded the updates. This solved the Lockup problem.

However, when I tried to log back into PWI, the client told me that I was running an old client and needed to update it. Attempts to update the client yielded in vain, for whatever reason the client would not let me update the software further. SO I uninstalled the system, and spent the past hour and a half reinstalling it.

Logging in, I find NOTHING. I see no characters in my character screen. NOTHING.

Someone please tell me there is a way to fix this...or have months of time and money invested in this game just been for nothing?

    Have you checked all the servers yet?

    I feel like an idiot.

    Thanks so much. I was about to have a heart attack.
