ok to make life easier for the people who still dont know how to put their own faction icon in game or to take out the background ill section everything so its easy to read. i read thru a few posts and decided to copy past the info here for everyone

SUBMIT IT

1)Submitter must be the guild leader.
2)Submitter must send in a screenshot of your guilds roster showing that the guild is a level 3 faction.
3)The image must be sent in as a 24 bit BMP format and must be 16*16 pixels with a RGB color mode.

transparent backgrounds

it seems like you need a 32-bit BMP If you would like a transparent back ground. make sure your Alpha Channel (Transparency Control Channel) is correct.
* add an Alpha-channel to your image (using Layer > Transparency > Add Alpha Channel)
* select the Eraser-tool Eraser Tool and erase what you'd like to get rid of or use the magic wand.

Programs

so far the programs i hear being used for this are photoshop and gimp
ill put step by step instructions up for how to do this in photo shop for thoes of u who have no idea how to work that program
