Hi, today i just hit 60 and was about to finally summon my kowlin

kowlin is going to be my main pet, (save for bosses where i have my walker)

I am thinking of taking off pierce and replacing it with threaten, it seems kinda stupid to keep a skill that lowers defense when we got ironwood.

i also considered shriek, but as the magic def on kowlin isn't too bad i figure threaten would be better.

any other skills i should consider before making the change?

For one thing, the maxed Pierce will be a higher reduction in P. Def until you go Demon/Sage. Something I was thinking of doing was maxing out all of the Kowlin skills, save Bash, and replace Bash with Pounce. I'd have a second nix, so to speak, for pvp on land. Though I haven't quite decided if I really want to keep the debuffs. I would keep the magic one though. :P Just use Ironwood a lot. It's our most damaging skill in a single hit (next to Para. Nove but with less Chi).

i would leave howl and pierce, threaten in lieu of flesh ream. whereas you remove bash, you are removing damage dealing capability. there will be occasions where you cannot use ironwood, albeit rare, they do occur. a prime example is during a fight with 2-2+ cosmoforce, where 2+ venos usually heal through his behemoth like strength.

    advice to fledgling archers:
Going sage is like drunken sex, at first she may look good, but when you wake up the next morning; you'll look at her and go WHAT HAVE I DONE.

Threaten does help with survivability and it seems a good choice for skilling although Sevas and Waffle do make good points about Pierce's usefulness. I myself lean more towards replacing it. Also, PvP is one of the Kowlin's strong points so i wouldn't consider getting rid of Ream unless you're strongly comitted to PvE only.
