yeah he can be tanked well at BH level with a ranged mdef pet, but I never use ranged petsb:laugh

I think the Eldergoth Marksman could do it around the level its tamed (41).

you dont even need an armored bear or shaodu cub.

Exactly. Although I have more rare pets in my bag than non-rares, I have to agree that I've heard of Crystalline and Volcanic magmites doing some amazing things in this game.

Its good to hear that people still use them =)

can't take Qingzi with the marksman till 45. at least i couldn't and i had 9 channeling. And i was trying him every level i wanted Fiend rings lol. now i've got 15 channeling..... btw the walker couldnt' handle the dmg up close till 48.. 49. My walker has tough and threaten too (besides roar and icicle).

And whoever said ealier they put Icicle, Thunderbolt, howl and Roar on a walker.... get rid of thunderbolt and AT LEAST put tough..... it's a TANK.

And river u might be interested to know, a walker at 90 has only 20 less P Defense then a mag, bout 300 more HP (over 3100), and like 600 more mag defense.

You really shouldn't be spamming Roar or Howl when spam healing a pet...
Sorry, I meant spamming just the two attacks and Howl. I only use the Roar for the initial attack.

Spamming Howl, however, is quite reasonable, because it lets my pet and any other magic DDers do more damage to the boss, thus finishing it off more quickly. If I time it right, I can get four elemental attacks off from my pet within the timespan of one Howl.

Actually, Icicle and Roar both came with the walker, I just upped the level on Icicle, the other two I added. And personally, for what I use my pet for, I've found that Tough is next to worthless. It's a small improvement that only lasts 15 seconds with a 60 second cooldown. If my pet can only survive if it has that buff, then I'm screwed anyways, since anything I would need it for takes longer than 15 seconds to kill.

The Walker started out with Tough, but I simply found it to be a waste of a skill slot for my purposes, so I removed it. With Thunderbolt I get additional aggro and damage instead.

Besides, without Thunderbolt, my Sparkplug just wouldn't be the same. b:chuckle

With my old veno, at level 55-60 with my Kowlin at the same level, I still really struggled to tank Quingzi and relied a lot on sparking to heal, maxed cleric buffs, stuff like that..

Oh how lovely having a herc is. b:chuckle

Um... I know roar and icicle came with it..... Obviously i have one considering i said i put THREATEN on mine. Second tough on mine is lvl 3 now, and threaten lvl 2. Tough is NOT useless, u just need to time when to use it. And with threaten to boot (cycling through them one then the other.. or especially if you use them at the same time), you've got yourself a super tank. I remember at 36 i went to the Wraith swamp and picked on two YaYans or w/e right by the vilage. They beat the stuffing outta the walker... it was like fighting a boss. However, hitting tough AND threateen when his HP got low i had plenty of time to get his HP back up and even get some shots in on the mob. Hell i took Krixx at 49 (or was it 48? lol idk). I'm not saying you COMPLETELY ruined your pet..... it's still got the best stats for a tank save herc (unless somone really thinks the extra 20 P. Defense on a mag will make a diff).... but you're not going to be able to take things when those that left tough on theirs can.

As far as howl... idk... i put that on my DD'ing pet that has Mag defense about equal to a walker's physical (the Sea Monster Guardian). I can throw it against magic aoe'ing mobs (when i'm not the one doing the tanking) AND lower it's magic defense.. auto attack with flesh ream and spam howl to up MY dmg.

I solo Rankar since end-60 with a Glacial Walker. Can't really see why a Herc would be needed. I didn't bother with uber gear, no -channeling and no TT-60 weapon. Just 1-3* stuff I picked up along the way while leveling, or nice deals on the AH.
    I am a 15vit build, so quite mag-heavy.

Btw, Tough might come handy to swap hp/mp, buys you a few seconds to manage your ressources while fighting.

I tried soloing Rankar about a dozen times at 67 with a CMag and cub, before deciding it was impossible and giving up. Nice to hear the Glacial Walker's extra hp and mdef is enough to let you do it now. Most of the opinions that a herc is required probably come from the pre-TB days.

I didn't say it was totally useless, just that for what I do, the situations where it might be useful were so rare that I found it far less valuable than other skills. I understand that isn't the case for everyone, which is why I made it clear that I was speaking only for myself.

I find Howl especially nice because it allows me to kill things so much more quickly, and the added magic attack on my pet almost completely ensures that it keeps aggro. With my pet's Howl plus Amplify Damage, I often see 10k-13k hits, at only level 67. And for my coin, the best defense is a quick kill. b:sin
