Hmm, too many people merchant nowadays for it to be a truly effective method of making coin. When the coral packs came out last, I thought I'd try a little merchanting myself. I started with tokens, only to discover at least 50 catshops in arch were doing the same thing. It went down to a 200 coin difference in buying/selling price and no one even bought anyway. Making oracles was another method. But another 10 catshops always doing same and players have smartened up a bit lately anyway. Gold very rarely fluctuates much either. Usually between 350-430k low-high. It never doubles. And guessing on sales is pure chance.

For some reason it's harder to sell things in a catshop in pw than any other mmo I've played. You can offer the cheapest price around and sit there for 6 hours and sell nothing quite easily.

Best bet is to make an overnight shop and merchant with some sort of item that few other shops are.

When the packs were out, i made MP food and sold them at 1000 coins each, which was the lowest on the server. Then just WC your wares and watch as people PM you asking you to save some for them. True, the profit per MP food is low, but after selling thousands of food per 10 mins, watch as you become rich =D

But the packs are gone now =(

First , specialize in something that your going to sell.
most easy thing to spec in is either mats or herbs, herbs dont always sell well
so you can also try to make apoth goods and market those,
second, try to get a feel for the avg price of what your specializing in.
find a good price range or if you feel like it undercut all your competition and sell lower then them, usually ppl are over priced anyway.
Personally I use the AH ,
if you sell herbs in the AH do so in bulk and at discount. it entices them to be bought

i do mine in bundles of 10 or 20 sometiems more if i know its a highly used herb.
other than that upgrade upgrade upgrade, if you can get lvl 4 mats , start selling lvl 4 mats, they are more rare and fetch a higher price.

thats about all i can tell you, Im not doing amazing but im learning and I aim to be a fine merchant on my server. Good luck to you

oh and buy low sell high like they said b:laugh

Ah, but you'd be surprised how many forget about properly crunching numbers....
Most think merchanting is looking for obivously underpriced items and typos at sellers.

There is no other real method to make money in this game. I used to farm HH for my runs. Mats still aren't selling. I don't expect prices or demand will recover any time soon. Grinding for coin is pointless due to gold prices. Your only other option is spending money and auctioning the gold off.
I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.

The only real way to make any decent amount of coins is through merchanting. No real secrets aside from doing some math and figuring out what's going to be in demand.

Pay attention to prices. Make sure you check the AH and every cat shop in west arch to ensure that you have a good chance of making money.

Don't specialize in one thing, try to invest in as many areas as possible, if you lose money in one area then money you get from others should be more than enough to cover the losses.

Realize that people are stupid, you can buy mats, turn them into wines and sell the wines at a price where it would be cheaper to buy mats from a cat shop 2 feet from you and make the wines, and yet people will STILL buy your wines. Buy 9 tokens and sell the 10 teles at a higher price than the tokens, watch as people still sell buy the teles.

Only invest in molds/HH mats if you are sure your getting a great deal.

Don't invest in any sort of "rare" item, PWE has a history of having "rare" items and then releasing them in the cash shop a week later.

By all means, if you have a 2nd computer available, use it to run the merchant 24/7. Consistency matters for building a customer base.

Find a high traffic area, that isnt TOO crowded, and STICK TO IT, dont try different places constantly, but stick to the same place. Consistency matters for building a customer base.

Defend your location from other fly by night catshops that set up shop next to you, and dont respect your shop. Sitting veno pets on them, or mount sitting on them can help deter competition.

Don't sell 1 type of item 1 day, and another item the next day, and a 3rd type of item another day, try to sell something for at least a few days at a time. People may see you selling SOF on monday, and then go look for you on thursday, so just because it didnt sell in 1 day, don't give up right away.

Watch from the eyes of the catshop occasionaly, get to know who shops regularly, and strike up conversations with your customers, it helps to cement the customer/merchant bond.

Join a merchant guild, a well respected one will often allow you to get away with charging a little bit more for your items.

Dont base your sell price on what you paid for the item in the first place. Base your sell price on your CURRENT cost to REPLACE the item, at any given time.
IE. You have 100 mirage stones you paid 20k for, and were selling for 30k, before the market tanked. Now you can get them for 15k, and so you can sell for 20k. The 1st 100 you sell wont be at a "profit' relative to what you originally paid, but to sell them for 20k will allow you to replace them with 133 mirages @ 15k (this is your profit).

Try to stock items that stack well, and sell in quantity. Volume is the name of the game...

You have 12 slots, so if you fill it with 12 single items, or stacks of things up to 20-30 you have a limited amount you can sell while you are afk at work all day. But if you stock with items that stack well, Dragon Orbs, Arrows, SOF, herbs, etc.... you can hold more inventory in those same 12 slots.

Put the single higher end items that dont stack, into AH, unless you have room left over on your merchant.

USE all 12 slots, they're your shelfspace.

World Chat, when you have just restocked, with whatever killer deal you are now offering.

All this is just to make money, which is relatively easy... The hard part is to KEEP your money, and reinvest it, rather then spend it all on skills/gear/etc...

If you want your merchant to be self sustainable, you must reinvest your profits, and grow your merchant capital.

I advise you to purchase a bikini or a skimpy outfit of that type and act like a girl. Guaranteed to make 10 times more cash than merchanting with half the effort. The initial investment is totally worth it.

    - Know your goods and prices
    - Do some math, include taxes, auction fees, etc.
    - Will it be better to sell via cat shop, AH, spam world chat, etc?
    - Check the Auction House when you log on and right before you log off. I swear I made 1 million a week just by buying and reselling scarlet fruit via AH. Took 5 minutes a day.
    - Predict sales. Really, its not hard. You can read sales like a book.

First you want something with LOW competition so the key is to keep what you are doing a secret i.e. how to get something way below market price the sell at market price.

    Second, wait...
