Best solution is to drop a skill and replace it with Bash. Most people drop Pierce since Ironwood basically does the same thing, though some drop Tough of Pounce. (Be aware that Pounce is a rare skill. If you remove Pounce, it'll be virtually impossible to put it back should you change your mind). When you summon your cub, set Bash on auto (good practice for when you get a herc in the future). If you're still having problems with it holding aggro, manually fire Flesh Ream every time it recycles.

Leveling up the skills will help a little, but giving your pet Bash and having it use both Bash and Flesh Ream will help the most.

Indeed, manually firing pierce will help almost as much (it does have a slower cycle time, and does less damage)

Just be sure to use it BEFORE you fire ironwood, since it overwrites and its debuff isn't as big.

I had the same problem with my Tabby and Cub since getting a new weapon recently.

I just upgraded Flesh Ream on both since it was more affordable for me than forgetting a skill on each and buying and levelling Bash on each as well. They hold aggro much better now just with Flesh Ream.

leveling flesh ream may help a bit, or you could get his friend, the froggy whom has similar stats but more attack, and the wonderful skill threaten which reduces enemy attack.

Pierce, Flesh Ream, and pounce generate significant aggro. Bash on a light hitting pet isn't going to generate much more aggro than these, but it will refresh faster.

I have Flesh Ream lvl 4 on my cub and is more than enough to keep aggro with regular mobs. Keeping FR maxed is the easiest and cheapest way to deal with aggro. When dealing with elites or tanking for a group i usually hit Pierce, then Bash. If you give Ream time to cycle over this it will be very unlikely the pet will loose aggro. I am planning on swapping Pierce for Bash however, i really do think is the most effective way to skill a cub.
