What can the GM's actually do?

They don't have the power to add content or add skills, that seems to come from the developers in china. (correct me if i am wrong please), but do they have the power to fix the content (bugs).

It seems like they can control server resets.
Do the gm's along with marketing decide what goes into the boutique, or does that come fom china too?

Can we get a job description as to what the gm's can do?
Maybe if we have a clear picture of what they can and cannot do then we can direct posts to the correct place.

The GM's the we usually interact with are the "figureheads" of the company. They are the ones that directly interface with the player community to gather feedback and opinions about the game, and relay that information back to the various departments from within the company.

In short, they are the "customer service" section of any other corporation.

There are a bunch of jobs currently advertised for the company (including web designer b:chuckle) http://www.perfectworld.com/about/job

GMs hold positions such as QA tester, community manager and customer support. But looking through the advertised job descriptions should give you a better idea of how the company functions, and their limitations.

Or to put it a less-tactful way: the higher-ups send the GMs to placate us on a regular basis. -_-

@OP, you're pretty much dead-on. PWE's marketing department is completely unknown to us and, it would seem, at least 99% impervious to player concerns. >_> That's why we get travesties such as Ani Packs. Three times.

GM's should theoretically have the knowledge of all what goes on in a game (applied knowledge varies tho from what I have seen in different MMO-games I played over the years).
However in most cases the community has a better understanding of said game tho.
Hence before I ask a GM anything related to a game (quests etc) I search forums first and foremost.

GM's are the people to control the masses or the great unwashed as some would call us players. They tell you what might be true but usually avoid a straight answer. They are employed by the company after all.

GM's uphold policies on forums to make sure flaming wars stay to a minimum (in some cases this upholding can be imparted by the GM personal interpretation). Understandable as they are human after all.
I speak for myself. My opinions are my own.
Assuming I speak for others is therefor void.

You forgot to add 'keep the game fun for players' And no that isnt ment with sarcasm as i know there is a lot of picking on gms, but they do a lot more then we see, and a lot of people forget that.

which brings me to the /GM in-game command..

is that automated, or is there actually someone there 24/7?

Being GM is something annoying for me. They can help a lot like making our game without hackers and fixing 1/3 of our problems , but other than that is just business , and when you're a GM u cant play normally? Or i am being wrong?

i believe you have your own character, and your GM character thats used to look at certain things in-game, but you just cant transfer things (like the gm robe or gm wings XD) to your normal play character.

    correct me if im wrong.

If a GM wants to play he or she can do so on any character if they so choose it just like us.
He or she can not tell us about it as it could be against policy. And ofcourse it might invite unwanted questions when you as a GM are on your off-hours.

When a GM is in GM-mode (s)he is working. They get paid for it just like any other job.
As a GM you can get rants galor. Again part of the job. So as a GM you deal with it.
    No fun ?
Well, they still applied and accepted the job. They are free to choose another and move on.

I assume that part of the fun a GM can get is people thanking them for their help. That in itself should outweight the rants.
