How does Sacrificial Strike work?

I'm looking at the dual axes that has the Sacrificial Strike property... It says it has:

Sacrificial Strike: Has a chance to inflict double damage at the cost of losing 5% HP.

So how does that actually work? When it's triggered, does it double the weapon damage or is it the double of the total damage that also has Strength bonuses added in?

Also, how often does it trigger?

It doubles the total dmg of the hit. In other words, it works like a crit, but that hit can also crit, stacking the total dmg to x4 of the normal hit

It is asumed it has a 5% chance to activate

Dont underestimate the 5% HP, because that means you lose 5% MAX HP. That means if you have 100 HP left and 5% of your MAX HP is over 100 you kill yourself if you SS. O_~

Sacrificial Strike can't kill you...I have a 90 sword with it on and I've tested it. You just end up with 1 hp, and you never die no matter how many times you zerk on 1 hp.

Well, attacking a mob with 1 hp left usually does kill you

I assume it works much like Gloom. It takes 5% away from MP. 5% of 0 is still 0 so it would still trigger. Though I dont know if this is Max MP or MP.

Though, getting to the point where you have such low hp is kinda hard, too. Unless you're a demon fist BM with zerk fists.

Thing is, 0 hp kinda kills you. 0 mp is just bothersome.

K, neither of you have used a zerk weapon it seems. As mentioned zerk can't kill you by itself it just simply won't proc when your HP's below 5%. The chance of activation is a lot higher than other effects and is around 20%.

The "All procs are 5%" thing was an assumption based on a single test done on a Gloom proc.

And saying that a proc us higher than something just based on how it feels isn't valid.

Zerk is definately a lot higher than a 5% chance to proc, I would say somewhere around 20% chance.

Find a BM, have him hit a NPC for 1000 times with a zerk wepaon. It won't come to be 5%.

He did provide a smattering of data, n=61. It's not enough to pin down the exact proc %, but it is enough to conclude that it is in fact higher than 5%.

Lol that was posted as a joke. Although the data was true, they were too few to "prove" the 20%. Maybe I'll run a larger test when I'm bored someday.
