Having trouble pulling in dungeons

Hi. I'm a returning player. I left a while ago and some things have changed. When I try to pull a mob with my pet I end up pulling a whole bunch.
I've always pulled by sending the pet, letting it land an attack, unsummoning and resummoning it. It used to be the case that only the mob that got hit kept comming while the others returned to their place. Now when I do this they all keep comming at me.

Am I doing it wrong? Have the aggro mechanics changed? Is it still possible to single-pull with genie or with tame?

Are you sure you're doing it right? Ive noticed no problems. If you run too far back once you've sent the pet out it's possible that it'll reset to your side without being stowed. In that case you'll pull the whole bunch. But as long as you're careful about that and don't attack yourself when sending the pet out you should be fine. The mechanics have definitely not changed. It's still possible to pull with your pet, as well as your genie or tame.

P.S.: if you have a herc, you need to keep reflect off. That'll pull the whole bunch as well

Nothing lure related has changed I think.

3 reasons that you may pull the whole crowd:

    1) A cleric BBs before you pull - guaranteed mass pull
    2) You run back too far, teleporting your pet to you
    3) You have a herc and mobs get agro from the reflect

It may be as simple as misjudging timing/distance. Try practicing out in the field and then take it slow on instances. It will come back to you soon.

Ok I will keep trying, probably just rusty :)

And yes, I actually did forget to unsumon the herc to lose the reflect the first time b:embarrass
But still failed my pull when I used an eldergoth marksman. Out of practice and not cautious enough I guess.

Does pulling with the tame skill still work? Just found out that genie pulling doesn't work any more...

Tame pulling still works. All the genie skills were nerfed except the Zeal genie's starter skill. That's the yellow/gold genie which starts with high magic. Its starter skill will still pull singles from groups. Unfortunately it seems they nerfed the free genie you get, and you can't get the Zeal anymore. You have to trade in 3 mirages to get one.

Regardless, you should practice pet luring until you at least get the hang of it. There are lots of situations where a tame/genie pull is too risky or impossible, and a pet pull is best. At lower levels the mobs run pretty slowly so you have a lot of leeway. But at high levels the mobs run much faster, and the extra ~10-15 meters you can get with a pet pull can often mean the difference between a successful pull and someone getting killed.

Thanks Sol. I do have a zeal genie so that's good to know.

Will have to keep practicing. It was totally frustrating to die in BH39 at lvl 54, although it was solo, but still b:irritated

    Thanks for the advice guys.

You might want to try pulling with a ranged pet. The eldergoth marksman stops to attack about 10 m further from the target than a melee pet, so you can run 10 m further away as you pull compared to a melee pet.

Summon the ranged pet, right-click its default skill to turn it off. This forces it to use a ranged attack.
    • Back up to where the pet won't attack the target because it's too far.
    • Tap the 'w' key to move forward a bit, and try sending the pet again.
    • When the pet does go, hit the 's' key to run back about 10 m (you will get a feel for it after doing it several dozen times). The idea is to run back to give yourself more time, but not so far back that the pet warps to you. If it warps to you, immediately stow it to lose aggro.
    • As soon as the pet stops to attack, stow it. Immediately begin to summon your main pet.

Using the above procedure, I have enough time to comfortably summon my herc, apply all buffs, set Bash to auto, and send it to attack the mob I just pulled (usually a boss). A fast melee pet like a kowlin doesn't seem to work as well unless you turn their default attack skill off. But doing that means it has no advantage over the marksman.

Thanks for the tips. Actually I always used a herc when I used to play before. Sending it in with pounce would buy a couple of extra seconds as long as the stun landed. Then, when I'd resummon it the pounce CD would be reset and I could stop the mob in it's tracks again. Well, that only works for mobs and not bosses. I think my problem was that I was too close. After switching aggro to me when the pet was stowed, the surrounding mobs were probably still close enough to get chain aggro.

Anyway, since pulling still works the way it used to I'll be fine b:thanks

EDIT: Yep, got it down now. The problem was that I wasn't standing far enough and being a bit careless.

BH39? Farren's guards are a pain to lure. It seem I have to stay close so they notice me once stowed or/and need to use bash with my eldergoth. b:sweat

Regarding random free genie for new characters, I made an alt a few day ago, the poor little veno(test character for soloing FB19 boss at 23 or earlier) got a zeal AGAIN. Maybe they changed the chance to get the zeal from 1/4 to something lower, but it's still advaible.

I myself have never gotten anything but Zeal whenever i get the free genie for a new char. Not too happy about it since i mostly build Dex based genies...
