Area of Effect (AoE) skills suggestion! [Poll Included]

Real simple suggestion. Make it so Area of Effect (AoE) skills do not need a target. By this, I mean ALL AoE SKILLS, including genie skills. I have a poll here as well, for those who wish to see an approximation of the populace's opinion on this.

All I'm suggesting, is that you don't NEED to target something to activate the AoE skills. Specifically, the AoE skills that normally activate with your character as the central point (ie, all BM AoEs except sword dance, psychic Aqua Bubble, Armagedon barb, etc).
For AoE skills that use the target as the central point (like wizard 2spark ultis, and cleric Tempest), if you activate them with a target, they open up on the target as they do now. However, if you do not have a target when you activate them, they activate with your character as the central point.

It IS Area of Effect, I don't see why you need to have to target 1 monster when you're attacking mutiple ones, just wastes time. I support this.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

My previous opinion on this still stands though, I believe some should be solely around the target, and some should be solely around the caster. Most likely melee classes with mainly "around the caster" AoEs and only one or two target ones, and vice versa for casters.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Yay for that! I want to cast my dragon upon myself, so, anything near me would die. Great skill to kill invisible things, or to set on my AoE for grinding, as well to run trough mobs and cast it, so, when they chase me, enter the range of fire and die.

i just realized, you playin assassin, which is the only player class that would get nerfed (indirectly) if they implemented this... yet you agree it should be implemented b:laugh

wouldnt it be kinda annoying... you start aoeing, only to realize the mobs are running away from or theyre not even close enough yet. Idk, a certain game had that mechanic, not much of a difference really.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

That is why self control is the key, as in the veno lure, they have to calculate distances or the pet is either not going to move to attack the target or the player would be too close to perform the lure correctly.

Have you noticed how you can't get hit with your own damage dealing skills? Even if you are casting that arrow rain, if a mob comes near you, you still hit the mob, not yourself.

I support this, i used to play requiem bloodymare (has been renamed slightly now) and they have a "sin" which can go invisible and because of this factor every class had at least one aoe which didnt require a target, in order to bring them into a visible mode, it brought balance to the game, and most definitely stopped any "QQ'ing".0

I agree with with you, to an extent. However, not all Aoe's should be self target. As this would nerf not only assassins, but bm's, barbs and one archer aoe, psychics, venos and one cleric aoe as they're not constant aoe attacks, or aoes that come "from you."
I believe that some Aoe's that are emination aoe, such as Siren's Kiss (cleric aoe), The Dragon's breath; should be turretable aoe attacks. However, that would make a terrible imbalance in the game, as far as the other classes are concerned. Also Veno aoe attacks have range + aoe, as well as many wizard aoes, and Tempest (cleric).
If these were all to be made into eminations, then there would be a large amount of very upset blademasters, who are now no longer able to enjoy their character. I for one, am one of them. Unless they reworked a sort of reticule system, that showed the area you'd be attacking on the ground. But, there again, many bm aoe's dont share the same aoe range, nor are they similar, and would make macros useless to them.
However; the two constant aoes, Barrage of arrows, and Dragons breath, can be set up continuously. Barrage, granted needs to be targetted on a squad member in a duel to be done so, but is still able to be done as such. Wizzy's all they need to do is run up to a mob DB and poof, constant aoe.
I am also in favor of certain classes getting a style of Sharp Observer, allowing them to see cloaked players, or partially be able to see them, bm's, as an anti-assassin class, Barbs should get it in tiger form, as venos should in fox.
hmm... if a set of skills were made to centeralize from your toon however, I'd assume these would be it:
Bm's would have fan of flames or drake's sweep
Barbs would have Swell or Slam
Clerics with Siren's kiss
Archers with Wingspan
But this leaves venos in the cold, as they only have range aoes until lvl 79, being Myriad rainbow (foxform)
I guess they could make the difference with genie aoes like Whirlwind, earthquake, Dust Storm
Why did I call out these specific aoe attacks? Because of the way they read. They all state something around the line of "Infront of you" or "around you" or "Attack all targets in ____ meters"
But many other classes posess aoes that read "attacks the target causing it and all enemies ____ meters around" such as veno, cleric, archer wiz and so on and so on.
Making ALL aoe attacks centeralized, would hinder other classes in damage with these attacks, bm's would be useless with Meteor rush, Heaven's flame, Glacial spike, Myriad, and linear aoe attacks. Barbs would feel the pinch as well with Armageddon, and Sunder, which are invaluable skills to barbs.
So while I agree with the OP to some extent... Not all skills are created equally, and shouldnt be treated as such.Apparently its more difficult to milk a smurf than originally conceived..0 -

you missed what i said... for the "deals to target and surrounding enemies" aoe skills like cleric Tempest, wizard ultimates, veno nox gas, psychic lvl 39 skills, and etc... they would function as normal, however you could still fire them off without a target (if you didnt select a target, they would use your character as the "target location")I have officially "won the game"...
