I've read through the guides I could find but couldn't really find an answer to this question.

Should I purchase at least rank 1 of every skill? Are there any cleric skills to be avoided completely?

Short and sweet. Your input would be greatly appreciated!

    The reason people don't mention that mostly is because to get to the next skill in a chain, you have to have at least level 1 of the skills before it. For example, Thunderball is useless, but you need level 1 to get Siren's Kiss, then Wield Thunder, then Tempest.

    Unless the skill is at the end of the chain, you should get level 1 at least so you're not hobbled in getting the rest of the skills down the line.

    Exactly just as Aadi said, due to the skill's tree...

    And this:
    Top Priorities: (not listing levels, but most of these you will have/need well before 59 skills)

    Attacks -->

    Plume Shot
    Cyclone
    Wield Thunder

    Heals -->

    IronHeart
    WellSpring

    Buffs -->

    Vangaurd
    Magic Shell
    Spirits Gift

    Misc -->

    Plume Shell

    * You will generally be short on Spirit (if not $$) until about 8x

    edit:
    And it's not about avoiding completely to learn a skill, generally you shouldn't avoid any of cleric skills. It's different than for exmple BM's skill, sword BM can avoid fist's/ axe's skills :)

    But, it's all about... which skills is more usefull/ useless. The skills listed above really have high priority for its use. In the opposite, you can leave Blessing of the Purehearted, Thunderball, Siren's Kiss and Silent Seal on Level 1... untill you're "mature" enough to level it and have some sprits/ coins to waste xD

    Also for other skills like Level 49, 59, 79 and 100 skills... they are more like advanced/ luxury ijs. They aren't primary, but they do usefull on later level :)
