Magmite or Glacial Walker?

which one to use? Good question. I have both at lvl 76.
For anyone who wants to know, heres what i found...

What have we learned?

The whole thing about lower start lvl pets being better goes out the door here. It may be fact for other pets, but as we can clearly see it's not the case here.

The glacial walker is slightly better, and that's the edge you might need in the heat of battle.

So what will i use from now on? What do you think?

Keep in mind that the "lower level pets end up better" only applies to pets from the same family. In other words, a Volcanic Magmite is going to be better than say, a Shikou Valorian stat-wise. Glacial Walker is a family all its own.

Wow, from looking here, the Magmite/Walker vs Herc aint too shabby. Only benefit is the Phys Def and Mag Def.

I may reconsider all those SoF/Nix I have been saving up....

as such they are the new title-holders for the title of "Best -FREE- Tank Pet"

granted, the stat difference between crystilline magmite and glacial walker is about as big as the stat difference between volcanic magmite and crystilline magmite, but point is made


my humble opinion on tank pets (from best to worst):

1) Baby Hercules (durrr)

2) Glacial Walker

3) Crystilline Magmite

4) Heptastral Beetle King/ Pentastral Beetle King/ Quadrastral Beetle King
(same pet, different colors)

5) Shadou Cub

i personally believe the volcanic magmites are pathetic and shouldn't even be considered. if you gonna grab one as a pet, just grab a crystilline magmite, as they are better, plus can be used one level earlier


for comparison purposes (because it helps to have all near eachother)

My only point is i won't own a herc, too many in this game for my taste.

i cannot take credit for the stats, you and solandri provided them, i just made it more... clean and organized

yea, hercs are now not that big a deal, just use a small portion of the gold you would have spent on battle pet packs, and sell it... then use the coin to buy the pdef/mdef/reflect skills, and add them on a glacial walker (that's what i'm gonna do...)

personally, i'm never getting a herc. why? because i think the frelling thing is fugly as ****. my damage output from pet may or may not be better than a herc, but at least my pet looks cool, plus has nearly the same stats (the difference is negligible)... that, and while i can EASILY afford SEVERAL hercs and nixes, i just dont play this game to "be the best", i play for fun

I would highly recommend against that. I find about half the bosses I send my herc against are hp limited, not defense limited. That is, I have no problem healing through the average damage over time the boss does. But occasionally it'll uncork a big hit or combo (they frequently do a magic + melee attack which lands almost simultaneously) which can take off 80%-90% of the herc's hp. A pet with lower hp (not to mention defense) will not survive that.

A bless scroll (hp buff) could offset this. But those frequently sell for as much as a herc.

my IceCube and i spend a lot of time in the SP, while he learns how to be a big boy version of a electric pylon!^_^

when not there, and facing mobs too high for him, i use my other golems as necessary.

several times my herc has nearly came to death from a few major hit combos but cos of the hercs high HP which a glacial walker doesnt have, its been a life saver, granted u cud get a hp buff scroll but yea as he said they cost as much as a herc or so,

thing is if u want a pet to be a good tank, a *must have* for the pet is phy and mag def (obviously), reflect for the big amount that it reflects back to the boss which helps keep agro aswell and its a must have on the herc or any other pet for that matter to have Bash skill to get agro at the very start of any battle and boss attack and try hold it to the end, thus having 4 skills and not enough for the hp buff.

What you can say about Torgirn Brave ? He has skill Tough, for example.

Or about Shikou Valorian ?

Here table to compare all Pets (except Glacial Walker).

And according all above data
Glacial Walker better than
Crystalline Magmite which better than
Volcanic Magmite which better than
Torgirn Brave by attributes, but they have good skills in back order initially.

They aren't as good. They come with skills, so they are cheaper than bringing a low level golem up to to that level - so they can be worth using if you are having trouble holding aggro and want to save the cash.

Otherwise, a low level golem and buying skills is strictly better.

I really hope that it's true that the Glacial Walker is better than the Magmite.

I want to vote Crystalline magmaite (spelling?), maybe it isn't the best tank pet but up till now (lv 62) the magmite has saved me tons of times. Sure he lose hp fast but I wont kill more than one mob at a time and I will switch it later on but it isn't that bad.

I'm a bit confused. I have looked at magmite and glacial walker comparisons before. Those comparisons had them basically the same expect glacier walker have slightly high magic defense and magmite had slightly better physical defensse.

The stats you give make the magmite look completely obsolete, losing in ever catagory.

well, put it this way, my magmite hasen't been an egg since i tamed it...till now b:laugh

I think we should be able to decompose our pets and add XP to another pet, simular to genies, for situation like this. My magmite is a second rate pet now. And im not sure i have it in me to level a glacial walker from scratch.

I may eventually level a walker but it would be nice to have option to decompse a few pets and tranfer XP to new pet. I have 10 pets 86+, and a few im not extremely happy with. Be nice if i could decompse a few and get a Glacial Walker up to a level 65+. Then i could at least grind mobs my level without haveing to go back and grind a ****load of green mobs first..

cube of fate room 4 = level 150 mobs that die in 1hit... profit?
