Internet Reqirements for PWI?

I know PWI needs a working Internet service to work.

But does PWI necessarily need Internet Explorer?

Because it says that I can't start PWI because of the "Unable to connect to server" thingy. My connection itself is fine. But is it the fact that I removed Internet Explorer not allowing me to play PWI?

    I don't use IE and I can play PWI just fine :).

    No that shouldn't be it.

    Have you checked your Firewall, Antivirus, Peerguardian etc and made sure you can connect through them? Usually ading an exception for patcher.exe and elementclient.exe should do the trick.

    My Firewall is off and I put my Gamer Mode on for my Webroot.

    But it still says:

    "Update server connection failed; Please try another server"

    and then to the right where the boutique updates usually are:

    "Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable."

    I'm pretty sure Internet Explorer isn't the problem now, but I'm still concerned about it.

    Yeah, but to be honest I'm technology illiterate.

    I don't exactly see how this- changing my network settings, change port information, router settings would help at the situation I'm at. I mean as in, as far as I know, I don't have a source to the problem yet.

    I don't even know what my problem is. Let alone, how to fix it of course.

    And what does "update server" mean?
    I've never had a problem with my server (Sanctuary) until now.

    For some reason, the game launcher uses Windows/IE shared technologies.

    So even if you don't use IE, it is helpful to install the latest version of IE, but you don't have to have it set as your default web browser.

    I use Opera, Firefox, for most things, and test on IE, Chrome and Safari when needed.

    Edit: Latest version of IE 8 & Flash should be installed on your system. Javascript needs to be enabled in IE and your default web browser as well.
    Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

    Update server is the one you get your patch from. Everytime you open the launcher it automatically connects there to make sure you have the correct version.

    Try this for now. A GM will probably look in here soon.

    @ Darth: So does this mean I have to get my Internet Explorer back?

    Edit: Apparently I still have Internet Explorer. But the Internet itself doesn't work for it.

    Out of personal experience, I tried uninstalling Internet Explorer on my laptop, because I rarely used it (Firefox FTW). Afterwards, I began to have the same problems you were having. After reinstalling the latest version of Internet Explorer, the problem was resolved.
