Hi, i've searched the forum and all i see is the best tanker pet's. I have an Herc and Nix, but since i cant use nix inside caves ( b:cry ) i want a DD pet when im in squad with another tanker since herc's atck isn't that good. With all the new pets is there any that makes a better DD ?

:P look a bit harder. The second stickied post in this subforum, titled "Pets, numbers...",

Anyways, according to that thread, Herc is the best DPS pet; from personal experience, I know that the initial scorpian hits harder per hit... but as mentioned in that thread, the herc probably does more over time (attack interval).

Aagain, read that post, scroll down and look at the 10 pets listed there for having the best DPS.

That post also says "Be warned, I don't have all the numbers !" and does not even consider flying pets in that section.

Read OP. Flying pets can't be used inside instances.

Which is ironic considering some instances have flying mobs.

The Hercules only has the "highest" DPS when it's not using any skills. A Scorpion with Bash will edge out a Hercules with Bash when it comes to DPS.

Pets with slower attack speeds get more benefit from skills like Bash and Flesh Ream, due to their fixed casting time (about 1.5 seconds), than do pets with higher attack speeds, like the Hercules and Phoenix.

So, a Scorpion loaded with skills like Bash, Flesh Ream, Claw, etc. will provide more DPS than a Hercules will.

There are more variables to consider than just atk and atk/s. M/S, range, atk w/skill, survivability, accuracy, etc can affect the efficiency of a pet.

In low hits per kill, m/s will make a bigger difference. With range, I've seen my marksman hit a mob 3 times before it got to him. Range also prevents kiting which slows down dps. Higher base atk means higher yield from skills. Survivability means less time healing: more time DD'ing.

One example is the array guards in OHT. They kite when attacked with a Nix, which makes a cactopod with much weaker atk from Eden more suitable (until the Nix can one hit them).

Flesh Ream is mentioned above, but FR is gimped on [?] mobs and bosses (or ones with significant differences in level). Since FR takes more time than a normal skill on many pets: it may actually hinder DPS on some bosses/ mobs.

Ignoring the insane insane people who can afford to buy a second herc and slap attacks on it in place of its buffs, anyway...

But yeah, scorpion tops out the dps.

If you want something prettier, and still pretty decent; The Kowlin and Dark Wanderer are both fairly nice.

Depending on what you're fighting, of course, pure DPS may not be the way to go - Howl and Threaten are both very useful debuffs. If money is a problem then getting a pet that comes with those (wolves and cats respectively) might be sensible.

Edit: Yeah, you only care about DPS if you're fighting a boss.
