    That's part of why Tree of Protection is(was?) a popular genie skill for barbs - the spike increase in HP creates an even greater 'damage pool' for Armageddon to use. Since the genie changes, I don't know if this is still true.
    I tried it too when I got the sparks. It didn't do anything. So that means the OP hasn't really tried it. Meaning he lied to us. OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!
