Crafting fee

Ok I have been crafting for a bit and I'm now working on my lvl 4 quests, but something has been bugging me, is there a purpose for the fee slot to the right of the production amount? Does adding money to the manufacturing of an item help to possibly produce a better item? I don't think this is the first time that this question has been posted, but I've looked around and haven't seen anything on it.

    No, the fee slot is for certain things that are "manufactured" and require a fee to make. The only thing that comes to mind is making molds at the Mysterious Merchant from Mysterious Chips, up in 1k streams.

    Yeah I'm pretty sure that the fee only applies to the chips, and only on some of the chip-items.
