Spiders near the Nameless Isle?

So the other day I was flying to Nameless Isle to kill Slitt, and I noticed something weird. The small island next to Nameless was full of spiders, and they were level [?] if I remember correct. I have been on that island for many times and never seen them before. I saw that they had quite low hp so I killed some with my Herc and found it a good way to level him as he got 15 exp. every time. So I suggest that option to everyone who wants to level their pets. But I'd still like to know why are those spiders there? Are they a part of some quest? If someone knows please answer, I have asked many people and no1 has seen them b:question
