Auction House Question

This is going to sound stupid, it even does in my head.
How do you seperate a stack of items to sell some of them in the Auction House? Ive tried holding ctrl as i move the items but it doesnt give me the option of choosing how many i want to sell, it just puts the whole stack in there. I cant figure out how to seperate stacks unless im selling them to a vendor like the merchant/blacksmith etc. What am i doing wrong and how do i do it right?

    Try separating them in your inventory before trying to stick them in the AH. ^^
