Loot Distribution

Yea, bit of a rant...
Ok, so i was conned today in the most childish and annoying of ways. Joined a squad and didn't notice that it had free distribution. Ofc nobody bothered to tell me. Or the archer. Or the cleric. Now, it seems a couple of dumb players have decided to set a little scam using BH to get themselves some runs worth of loot, taking advantage of the fact that many of us join squads without bothering to check the loot distribution system that's prompted when you join a party. Yeah, i know, completely my fault. This is not a QQ thread.
Now, i realized after this that this is something i've probably been a victim of more times than i'd care to know. But seriously, isn't the general asumption that loot distribution will be set to random unless agreed otherwise? Now, i've found out there really is no way to tell how distribution is set once you're in squad. The little checkboxes only tell you what distribution would be if you started the party. And does anyone know if loot distribution can be changed without squad members noticing?
Now, this isn't about the 4-5k woth of drops i may have lost on a lousy bh51 run. The barb that conned me had the nerve to tell me that what he was doing was right, and that i would understand some day. Said something lame like "you keep what you kill" which wouldn't be true at all in his case since my pet oftentimes did most of the tanking and he wasn't doing anything in the way of damage to the mobs we were fighting. How is this fair for ranged classes? What about the cleric? I certainly amped bosses we killed and kept the sob sparked. Melees can seemingly abuse this most of all because some of us will simply blame bad luck for not getting any drops. It's the principle of the thing. And really if you're going to run some sort of scam what kind of loser choses an fb. Half an hour of honest grinding will get you far more money at much lesser expense, and in certainly less time, especially now that the new bh system has someone always porting out after every boss kill.
So yeah, i guess "common sense" failed me and i should always check loot distribution when joining a squad. Haha, lesson learned, i'm a freaking noob... Can someone explain to me how this works. Once you're squaded are you just at the mercy of whoever has lead? And other than keeping a close eye on who's getting what, is there a way to know what loot distribution is set to?
Am i wrong in thinking changing it from random is something that should be discussed amongst the squad... Now, don't i wish i'd been on a PvP server...

The reason they tried it in a dungeon is the possibility of grabbing a mold. AFAIK though there's no way to change it once a squad is created, short of disbanding it and recreating.
It would be nice if the Squad window showed whether loot distribution was on Random or Free though, instead of only showing it when you first get an invite.0 -
The whole loot distribution system needs to be more user friendly imo. b:surrender You can't tell what distribution it's on when it's formed, you can't change distribution...it's all rather clunky and disorganized.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

The only way to check loot distribution is when you join the squad. The loot can only be set by the leader before the squad is started and cannot be changed once the squad is formed. You can watch drops as they go to people for an indicator of loot distribution. If you suspect that it is on free and didn't check before you accepted the invite, tell the squad you are lagging and need to relog then check when you get reinvited. Other than that, I'm not sure that there is a way to check once you join the squad. Just be more observant when you are joining squads to avoid this.

I did a test with a friend recently after the same sort of thing happened to me several times. In the test we did all sorts of combinations, like change leader then leave squad then reinvite so on and so forth . There really is no way to tell what the settings are on , except for the invite panel your send to join the squad. I also wanted to find out if there was a way of changing it once in squad, it couldnt be changed (which is good in a way as otherwise leader would have a huge advantage if something good drops)
And yes I believe that 'free' mode should be agreed upon by all members. Alot are to busy doing their job in squad to notice where drops are going and watching if drops go to who picks them up , it's only later when you realise you got exactly squat from the run that you realize it was free mode.
Please overhaul the squad UI to at least show what the current squad setting is. Too many are getting conned b:angry b:angry b:angryb:angry b:angry b:angry b:angry b:angry We love this game STOP RUINING IT !! b:angry b:angry b:angry b:angry b:angry b:angry
