I would recommend reading the textbook that tends to go along with math classes b:victory

Well start by rearranging the top and factoring by grouping:

    10pdkbk.jpg

Can you figure it out from there? I got to that from googling how to do it...b:chuckle

Edit: Don't mind my "handwriting", was writing on OneNote with a touchpad. Too lazy to get pen and paper.

    got another one:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/_hinata/math2.jpg

    k this one, I substituted tan( t) for x, and sec^2( t)dt for dx

when I do integration by parts I get stuck in this infinite loop if integrationbypartsing and can't clear the integral sign thing out of the equation so idk what to do there or even if I did it right up to that point
the starting problem is in top left
o and it should be dx=sec^2(theta)d(theta)
    forgot the d part

Hey, that has those x's and y's. Is that an English course?

My calculus course doesnt start until 2 weeks. Doing a course called Higher/Advanced functions atm (course code: MHF4U). Dont know if such a course exists in America. The name scheme is different too.

That 1 + x^2 is nagging me, it looks SO much like a trig identity but not quite...I think however you do it, you have to turn it into a trig identity somehow. b:surrender Not quite sure how though.

as is shown in the work:
tan was substituted for x, then the trig identity 1 + tan^2(x) = sec^2(x) was used

That wasn't what I meant, I used bad terminology. Probably because I'm not quite to this area of integration in my class, but it reminded me of an inverse trigonemetric function.

Maybe not b:surrender I'm working almost entirely off of google here rofl.

(this is my homework we're all doing here lol)
the 1 + x^2 became just the secant, and then cancelled completely with the sec^2(t)dt that was substituted for dx, leaving the integral tan^3(t)sec(t)dt
I then used integration by parts, giving me:
    sec(t)tan^2(t)-2(the integral: tan(t)sec^3(t)dt)
however, when try to use integration by parts on the remaining integral, I just keep getting the same thing, alternating endlessly between integrals tan^3(t)sec(t)dt and tan(t)sec^3(t)dt, so I don't know how to proceed. I donno if I did something wrong in earlier steps or if I should be doing something at this point that I don't know I should be doing
