Buffing with Bramble guard

I have been asked at random to be buffed by people but it will only work in squad. I have been told, it should not matter but when I try it will only work on myself. I'm not sure what the problem is, am I missing something?

    You need to change your Protections settings.

    Click the Shield (or swords, but in your case probably Shield) icon below your minimap. It's the second one in the group counting clockwise, between the coordinates assistant and the boutique.

    The check boxes you want to uncheck as necessary are:

    Blessing/Healing Filter
    [ ] If target is RED NAMED, buff is cast on yourself.
    [ ] If target is not in your FACTION, buff is cast on yourself.
    [ ] If target is not in your SQUAD, buff is cast on yourself.
