What beginner pets are best?

I got my beginner scorpion pet. Then I hatched a wolf egg but he was weaker than my scorpion(took more damage). My scorpion is lvl 13 as he leveled with me, The wolf, I hatched was lvl 12, 1 level lower. I obtained eggs from other mobs but none seemed to have better stats than my scorpion. From what I read people were saying that they were changing pets constantly. But I don't see the advantage of doing that.

Chobsi - Heavens Tear

Scorpion is one of the pets to keep seeing as how it has the 2nd highest DDing potential behind the nix.
People switch pets when there is one better than another since they all have growth charts but normally stick to ones under or around 20
Glacial walker/Magmite as a tank the level 18 rock looking mobs, is a great tank behind Herc.
Shadou cub is another option while more expensive then the glacial walker/magmite (Being a rare pet it has a cost depending on server) I used both and liked Shadou more in the end, but to each his own.

they mean if u buy the pet from another player the cost depends on which server ur on some are more expensive some area cheaper b:victory

Because you can either tame a rare or buy the egg from another player via catshop or auction house. Though, other than a snow hare, it's likely you won't be able to tame a rare yourself, because most of the rare spawn spots are camped by Venos who are much higher level than you. Beating them to the tame won't be easy, especially when some of them would rather kill the critter than letting you tame it.

Exactly, I waited till my 40s to have enough money to buy a shadou cub, originally just because it was cute b:cute but then I realized I like it more, it has more m.def then mag, but less attack.
Mostly i liked the speed.
Some pets cant survive lures like when your in your 60s and you do BH51, Pulling the gaurds of wyvern is tough without a good hp/def pet so I found shadou good for that instead of a magmite taking 5 minutes to reach the gaurd, and during grinding/quest you will always get jumped by an extra one and its much nicer to have shadou get to it quicker then running around using pots/genie skills while you wait for your magmite to catch up to it
And the pounce skill the shadou comes with stuns the mob and increases the pets speed, good for saving clerics in BH/when you pull aggro with crits.
