Gold question

I am pretty new here and have a question. I did get a reply by e-mail but am curious how it all works. I spent $20 for a game card thinking I can get a couple cool items to add to the game. As I saw on other posts PW seems to be getting greedy. Yes I know they need to make money to keep the game free but to make it all on a few people is not right either. I think the game is great but the cash shop stinks.
My Question is this how does the Auctioneer work? They said you can trade in game coins for gold coins. I'm looking at about 500,000 coins per gold but hey if you want it bad enough a little gold grinding is worth it imho. I am now Bill Gates so I can not see spending $25-$50 for 1 in game item. If I'm adding right for 1 full outfit and a mount I could buy a PS3 or 360 system.
So pretty much to keep both happy I do not mind putting in a little cash but I think I would rather meet them 1/2 way I would grind me 5mil and add in $10 and I could spend 20 gold.
I get what I want and they get a little money to keep the servers up and everyone is happy. But how does that auctioneer work it all looed greek to me lol
