really curious, what is the reason so many MMO forums frown upon the mentioning of other games? even if its not advertising, is there anything wrong with comparing games to others to help others further understand a concept? i dont quite get it.

    It takes away customers.

    Really no other reason.

Pretty much (for whatever reason) even the mention of another MMO seems to be promotion of that game to them. I can understand that, as well as the fact that there is always a natural flame-fest between the 2 games

Game A is better you noob!
Nuh-uh! Game B has this and that!
lawlroflbbq but Game A has blah blah

    And it's all just stupid ****. =P

Not to mention these forums are for PWI, not a general games discussion. =)

It's an excuse to lock threads that are annoying to mods but have no other reason to be deleted, too.

I'll post this here seeing as how the GM's probably won't see it in the other topic:

Question to the GM's: I know that mentioning another mmorpg is against the TOS for advertising, but what if the game no longer exists? My previous mmorpg has officially shut down, so would it still be against TOS to mention it?

I am on other boards where we can say the name of other games. It is not like it is advertising.I like the pve of this game but more of the pvp of the other game I play.
Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.

If the game is dead and has decomposed entirely or it's ashes have been scattered (100% dead) it can be talked about. GM Xarfox talked a few weeks back about a game he used to be a GM in but dosen't exist anymore, I think it was Space Cowboys. But remember, this is the PWI forum so its either going to get locked or removed to Off Topic.

I could even prove the game is dead, but you know the GM's. They'll lock and close the thread and ban you if you don't watch yourself. Therefore this is why I want an official answer before I accidentally and unintentionally hang myself.

Uh, you're allowed to mention them, or even discuss them, in the Offtopic section. However, no promoting allowed for obvious reasons.

if the game actually shut down.
then yesh you can mention it like me has.
(just make sure you clarify that the game is actually DEAD since not everyone knows every game in existence.)

It's in the rules, this is not an uncommon rule. Mainly for the reasons that other players have stated.

    Also... Space Cowboyyyyyyyy! RIP
