b:flowerb:flower I've asked a bunch of people, but no one knows what it does besides black out a screen for 1 or 2 seconds.

Does anyone know? b:fatb

I think it synchronizes the game to your monitor's refresh rate, but I'm not positive.

    v-sync: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_synchronization
unless you're noticing glitchy, stutter-y graphics, not worth worrying about.

It's supposed to prevent tearing. Your computer draws the frame from top to bottom. When it finishes one frame, it starts drawing again from top to bottom.. But your video card doesn't display whenever the screen is finished drawing. It displays according to the framerate. So without vsync you can get frames which are part of one draw and part of the next. This creates a noticeable disjoint where the two pictures meet, that's called tearing. If you enable vsync, you give up a little framerate and the video card waits until the comp finishes a frame before displaying it.

But in this game, as near as I can tell, it does nothing. I have vsync on and I still notice tearing.

You might have your graphics system-wide settings (such as via the nVidia Control Panel) set the v-sync forced off.

Yup, exactly it prevents your screen from flickering, but don't use it on LCD screen because its useless on them, and turning off makes Frame rate higher
