Elemental pet skills vs. Bash

Do the elemental skills (Toxic Mist, Sandblow, icicle...) act as an elemental bash and take a high amount of aggro on pet?

How effective are they at gaining and keeping aggro? Is it worth it to buy and default Bash if a pet doesn't have it but has and elemental skill?

Yep, the elemental bashes seem to hold aggro exactly as well as bash does - well, a tiny bit better on 'weak to' mobs, a tiny bit worse on magic resist ones etc.

Bash and elemental bashes function exactly the same except one checks physical resist rather than a magic resist score. If you're using icicle and bash, bash would be better on water mobs, icicle would be better on fire or whatever is weak to water, bash would be better on magic resist, icicle better on increased defense, and otherwise mostly the same, depending on the mobs physical vs magic resist.

As far as it being worth it, I wouldn't. But if you have the free skill slots I would pick up a second bash (bash, another ele bash, whatever) for aggro when you find one in the AH.

I've noticed that the actual damage output of a same-level elemental bash tends to be lower than bash on even weak element mobs. I no longer have bash on my kowlin, but its lv one bash was outdamaging lv 2 fireballs on Aurum Spectres and some other mobs I looked at. Is this just a case of me having been looking at mobs with high mdef in general, or has anyone else noticed this?

That said, for agro, it's great. With Lv 4 ream and Lv 4 fireball, I couldn't pull agro off my kowlin even if I spammed nukes on same lv mobs.

    Aurum Specter: http://www.pwdatabase.com/pwi/mob/7025

Physical 1580, Fire 1141. Ironwood would be a 30% physical debuff giving you 1106 physical 1141 fire. That's 27% physical resist, 28% fire resist. Are you sure Fireball was one level higher? It should have hit 15% harder in that situation if it were the case.

In general what you're probably noticing though in Bash's favor is that you have Ironwood, that's a physical debuff. It's an advantage for bash and will usually make it hit harder than an elemental.
