Dear PWD,
My family of six (4 children) has played all your games now for over a year, and dearly love them. Perfect World has been a source of fun, socializing, family squads to do various FBs and other ingame jobs. Our children who play (ages 18 down to 15, with an avid 13 year old who cant wait to be allowed to join in the fun), take their characters into the real world and the life skills they learn ingame have been of help to them in daily life, as well as friendly teasing among us.
You can well imagine how eagerly we all waited for the new expansion, though my husband and I told the children they would have to wait until I had examined the new characters and update. We were concerned about the artwork we were seeing, and the very adult nature of it. Wednesday night, when the patch was finished, I was on, and though the characters seem fine, we are shocked and appalled by the transition screen artwork. Though some of the pictures are fine, the female pictures are vulgar, and reprehensible. The costuming and posing are as sex based as the pinups and Vargas girls of WW2.
This is **not** appropriate for in a game targeted at teens, to say the least. And as this game is played by children as young as 9 years of age (yes, this is a fact that I can prove, as this is a player one of my children has met and befriended), these pictures must be removed and replaced with something less sexual and better dressed. My husband and I are not permitting our children to play until this issue is resolved.
The solution is very simple: remove the vulgar artwork, and replace it with either older pictures, or have new ones made with characters in more realistic, ingame type poses and clothing such as players will be able to buy in the future, such as was done with the Feather Embrace (though that too was too sensual). By dressing the characters in outfits that will be one day available in the cash shop, you are preadvertising something, which will cover the cost of replacing the offensive artwork.
Please, do take this seriously- I am quite sure my husband and I are not the only parents who are deeply offended by the art, and who wish it removed. And our children anxiously await the chance to come and play the new characters, as do I.

Seriously, while I commend your efforts to protect your children's innocence, PWI (and indeed, the PW franchise) has sorta objectified female anatomy from the beginning. FFS, you're 70+, you know what the light and heavy armor looks like on ladies. Or even if we wanna scroll way, way back - the cleavage the Necromancer & Mystique robes show? Or the Plumed Embrace fashion (I assume it's the same one you mention in your letter), that barely 'covers the details' so to speak. And indeed, I've noticed MOST of the recent fashion releases make the Minxxy skirt look positively prudish in comparison.
Case In Point.
Note that the plumed top actually shows the skin 'perma-undies' texture under the breast, because the garment itself is so revealing.
If you're going to write PWI about 'bad decisions', at least do so on an issue that impacts gameplay. This is the kind of letter they print out and pass around the office for laughs during lunch.0 -

Good grief, guys. Relax. Just cause the screens don't bother you or me, doesn't mean others can't find them offensive.
Fox, I'm working on a solution for you. I'll PM you if I can get it working like I think it will. I'm attempting to remove the screens themselves so they can't be loaded.0 -

A game that has language filters built in and auto-enabled...
A game in which people use very vulgar ways over WC on a CONSTANT basis across all servers...
A game that idolizes the typical over-exadgerated hourglass-figure woman with a huge bust, tiny waist, and large hips... oh, all of these being VERY visable in all of the most popular female fashion, as well as some armors...
A game in which people berate and belittle eachother on a constant basis in WC, Faction Chat, and Common Chat...
Now I'm not a parent mind you, but I DO have a younger brother who I try to protect and do right by as any good brother should, and although he is only 15 years old, and becoming more of a man every day instead of my little bro, I trust that he has the sense of mind to see these "provocitive images" on loading screens and such, and understand that they are just art, and nothing more. Wrether or not the art is designed to reel in drooling pubecent boys is another story, but none the less; I trust him to be intellegent enough to know that those vulgar people are just ignorant, and that those images are nothing more then a picture drawn by people, not real, and not intended to be a representation of reality.
My point is this:
Children learn by the example that is set for them by the people they look up to, and they do understand the differance between reality and fantasy.
I wouldn't expect my brother to be come a pervert at a young age from playing this game any more then I'd expect from him seeing the Venus de Milo or the Statue of David.0 -

Well, the game is generally aimed towards 16+ teens to young adults. Specifically males in general (most games are). And.. the thing is, sex sells.I was early taught to work as well as play,

Hi Foxrunning, morals depend on the society we're born / raised in. One looks down on others trying to change and ridicule it.
Although many credit games having influence on children, which is rarely the case. A child is influenced and sees the world depending on how its raised. Your children are mature enough to give them some credit, otherwise just don't let them play.
The only danger PWI will have on your family is by turning them into forum trolls, the likes you see above.

Last I checked, Perfect World wasn't for children under 15 or so years old anyway. But this doesn't mean that people don't let children play MMORPGs. My little brother is 8 years old and plays Shaiya every day.
This isn't about what we find offensive. The loading screen images are as 'sexually themed' as the female fashion. Have you seen the bikini fashion set? Yes, of course you have. I'm sorry to tell you that it's as revealing as those loading screen images are - and people mix and match that fash and other such revealing 'pixel clothing' everywhere.
If you are offended, by all means, be offended. But PWE have those images for a reason, much like they have all that fash for a reason. Each can be seen as offensive as the next.
Your letter will do nothing but let some people know that you are unhappy. They will not change anything for one single letter. And this aside, if you have not complained at how revealing and sexually-orientated fashion can be, I don't see why you suddenly have such a problem.
