how to activate gliding sword?

I did get gliding sword from quest, did put it on slot it belongs and used it like spell with a key, icon goes bright but nothing happens. How i mount it?

    With the item equipped, hit 'e' to bring up your actions, and choose 'fly'

    you can drag that to a toolbar too
