They're trying to make a union of Spanish guilds on the Heavens Tear server and apparently we can't discuss the union because we're not allowed to make threads in another language on the forums.

Fail.

Hey GMs, time to elect a new peon who's multilingual. Do I need to run the numbers on what percentage of the world speaks Spanish? It's Perfect World International. Get over yourselves.

In before, "If we allow Spanish, we have to allow all languages." So make a foreign language category. Wham bam, thank you ma'am.

If you were in Canada you could get away with that request but with French instead since some **** monkey up here made it the second official language.

But since Spanish is not officially the second language then you might be left short.

PWI is focused for USA...There is something on the site that explains it. Perhaps someone who knows can link it.

its an american subsidiary for reaching the american market due to the lucrative potential here. international is more of just saying, hey toto, were not in china anymore.

note: mods are volunteers, its not like we can magically have one for each language around when needed, so dont be ridiculous. if you want to make a spanish coalition, do it over world chat, its not like that many people come to the forums anyways.

    EDIT: remember, statistics are lies.

While we understand the need for what you ask, at this time, all communications for our games, forums, and emails are required to be in English.

English is the international language for business, many parts of the Internet, and many video games. Most people on the planet are multilingual, with English being their 2nd or 3rd language.

So while we'd love to offer support for other languages, we simply can not do it in the foreseeable future.

There is nothing from preventing you all from having your own forums elsewhere for your own Guild, Clan, Alliance, etc. (which I would do on my own anyways).

Trying organize guild unions works half-assed at best in ANY language if you have to do it via World Chat, chat room in-game, in guild chat, in whisper... You all know that as well as I do. Character limit, everyone just starts talking at once, etc etc. And it's a UNION. The only website that everyone belongs to and has access to is.... the Perfect World International one.

We should have a right to be able to discuss things over like intelligent human beings, which is what we are trying very hard to do, but alas, our threads get closed after three posts and we can't get anything done. I know you won't do anything to fix it. But I'm calling you out because this is bull****. :\

so it has nothing to do with being a game huh? why is that not factored in in any way shape or form? there SHOULD be an international, non-english section for this, why isn't there one? understaffed?

and sure, even Shattered and Calamity and Equanox have their own forums, many of us met in-game, true, but if we were looking to EXPAND our guild, wouldn't we advertise here? why is it prejudiced against non-english speakers? (native english-speaking member myself so nothing for ME to gain from this)

When you joined this game you agreed to their rules.

What gives you the right to demand change?? Think about others wants on top of yours. If you get your way why can't everyone else get theirs.

The problem is that in order to have an "any language" section, they would need someone who could speak any language that was used there, not just Spanish. And I very much doubt we are going to see a section specifically for Spanish speakers, since everyone else who uses a language other than english would then rise up in anarchy.

and I said nothing about Spanish, did I?

It scares me to death to even imagine this forum in a scenario where players mod themselves. No matter what language it's in.

When I lived in Mexico when I was younger I did not demand that the government and their country speak english to me.

I learned their required language so I would be able to function within their country.

Pretty much the same thing here. This is gonna get hot pretty soon.

-Letting the members mod themselves is a BAD IDEA. >> Look at what happens when the mods aren't around on the forums already. Plus, if no one can understand what's going on, how would mods/GMs stop disputes and breaks in the ToS?

-There is NOTHING stopping you from signing up for a free forum from one of the many forum providers out there. I have one myself (even though it's dead). There's nothing stopping you from that. And everyone can have access to a certain website, can they not? What's the difference between the forums here and another set of forums somewhere else?

-darthpanda already said it's required for everything to be in English.

-I have nothing against a forum like that, just, there's nothing special about Spanish. If a forum for people that speak Spanish is made, then all the others want their own forums, and so on.

-- Also, the servers are hosted in America. Dunno if that matters, but, I've had someone try to use "PWI isn't hosted in America" as a 'point' against English being the dominant language in PWI and the forums--

I know for a fact there's more than just americans on PWI, know there's someone from Poland here, Russia, France, Spain, etc. this game is advertised to be "international" so there are MANY peopel from all over hoping for that the case. and it's not hard to find mods and apply them to only one section. mod problem solved.

If you make an all language section, you think it's /easy/ to find someone for EVERY language? Ummm... yeah, if you want to give newbies and normal players mod status over a board... that's even worse. Mods are people that you can TRUST. You can't find a trustworthy person for EVERY language that you'd give mod status over the boards to.
and how do you suppsed they're gonna get the word out about their forum and faction?

World chat the website. Recruit and give people the website when they join. A lot more people see world chat than read these forums. Would you go to these forums if you wanted to recruit more people, or would you world chat it? I sure as hell would choose the latter.

Btw, I edited my above post.

And you still don't get my point. You CAN NOT find someone from each language that you would trust enough to give mod over ANYTHING. We'd have major QQ about power abuse, about missing mods, about people that can't get on enough, not do their job right...

So you want a all language section... but you're okay with it being overrun by trolls and newbie mods and untrustworthy mods?

Why would PWI want to support something that is not controlled by their own people.

When you go somewhere, do not expect them to mold to your wants. You need to learn to mold to their ways.

    Pretty simple.

    This.

Well I didn't live in Mexico, but the concept presented...
But I did travel to Mexico, and even back when I was only eight I tried to learn as much Spanish as I could before I left. I wasn't going to walk in there speaking English and expecting anybody to pay attention to me.

I also don't see the point of a specific language board if you already speak English. Perhaps for people that don't speak any English...but other than that.
I played a game that had language specific forums for Italian, French, German, Spanish, and something else I forgot. It was riddled with spam, trolls using Google translator, and un-answered questions. Because the mods hired never did their job and showed up like once a month.
    tl;dr:
    No.

I've played a few international games, every single one of them that has a forum has a language requirement for that forum. If I'm playing on a German or French or Spanish or Portuguese server, all posts must be in that forum's language. I don't see why it's any trouble at all.

If you want to post in your mother tongue create a forum with the intention of doing so.

English is the international language for business, many parts of the Internet, and many video games. Most people on the planet are multilingual, with English being their 2nd or 3rd language.

I think that sums it all up.... I am sure the PWI staff want the game to appeal to as many different people as it can, but for the sake of simplicity, ease of communication and to keeping the general appeal as broad as possible, using the international language of business only makes sense....

Ya can't please all the people all the time so yo gotta please as many as ya can as often as ya can as simply as ya can.
