Good laptop?

Grr, stupid post won't come out, so I've got to type something new x.x

Anyone know a good gaming laptop for a 1500 dollar price range? I was thinking alienware m15x since its portable and getting 200 dollars off on upgrades. Was thinking the more expensive video card, better battery, and 4 GB ram. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to play PWI on max settings with no lag. Didn't place this in the technical support section on purpose. And I know there are other threads on this, but I couldn't find anything useful. And does anyone have other suggestions? No acer btw.

While your at it, can you get me one for Christmas. The wife's laptop is the farthest thing from a gaming machine.

I think she bought it like that knowing it would not be worth installing PWI on it.

I'm using an acer right now. I keep pretty good care of it (i.e not dropping it around everywhere). Yet, the parts near the screen are breaking out and its gone all blackish. If she's got something worse than this, I feel really sorry for her.

$1,000, and it runs Crysis fine. You'll get the laptop clean as a whistle from the beginning with next to no software on it, so you'll have minimum memory use.

They build what you tell them you want, and it's waaaay cheaper than a normal manufacturer for better specs. Can't go wrong there.

for nvidia the higher the number the better, except in 2 cases:
1: the series 1 down seems to be better on a X+00 level (like a 6200 being better than a 7100, donno if this was fixed in GTS/GTX cards though)
2: if a lower card has more ram (a 8400 with 256 dedicated is beter than an 8600 with 128)

I see, thank you. And GTX is better than the other model?

what xeian just wrote is not always true. more ram in card dont mean that card is better (ddr2 vs ddr3 or just other parts of card may be 'slower')

and example '6200 is better than 7100' dont have to be true either.

problem is that manufacturers keep confusing people and knowing model type f.e. 7100 or 6200 is not enough to estaminate how good card is - u need to know whole specs to tell that

before u buy some laptop read few reviews bout it (best if from few sources..)

Best site for comparing graphics cards

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-280M-SLI.17191.0.html

Its what I used, I got a Nvidia G210M in my laptop, runs PWI nicely, and I can fraps on medium settings if needed at around 10fps in Arch

but generally. that was my point. ys DDR3 makes a difference for sure, but all other specs aside, if the cards are equal excapt in number, the highest hundreds one is ALWAYS better. I know quite a few people, and they all say the same.

I was just going to look at Asus. Gateway seemed pretty good, but if acer bought it I'm not too sure. Also, does anyone know if it's possible to buy clevo laptops straight, and not through the other companies like alienware and sager?

Alright here's the list so far-

    Sager NP8662
    Alienware M15x
Both have 2.8 ghz proccesors and GTX 260M graphics card

    Gateway P-7915U FX edition
Cheapest one. Has 2.53 processors. GTX 260M graphics card. Its about $450 cheaper than the other two

    Asus G2S
    Asus G71Gx
I have no clue about the pricing of these two. Don't know specs either, but got good reviews. Anyone know the price of these?

Oh and all have 4 GB ram.

I have the Dell Inspiron 1525...not the best laptop ( I asked for a gaming one -_-) but it works. I can play different games at the same time. Like once I played Ether Saga, and Perfect World at the same time and when Jade Dynasty was in CB, i played that while on Perfect World too. Um, I can watch movies and go on facebook and message my friends on msn and yahoo.

So...its not the best but it handles a lot and thats a good thing because I get bored just being on PWI

I don't think ill be getting the alienware. It looks like crud and is overpriced, and has pretty bad customer service. Since I need my laptop on time, that might be a pain. I'm looking at the sager and gateway now.
I'll post the specs. For some reason it's not coming out in one post, so forgive me for double/triple/quadruple posting.

Check Newegg -- ASUS brand have been given awesome ratings and friends I know who have them never complain. I had a Dell Vostro and not so high marks for that.

Whatever you do, for gaming, aim for a discrete GPU (graphics card) rather than integrated or shared (shares video memory with CPU and the rest of the mb), although Nvidia has had it's share of mobile graphics issues.

I can answer this easily for you. TOSHIBA or ASUS! Nothing else. Go to Yahoo or Google and look up, Laptop Life Expectancy. These r the only two that have a lifetime over, Get This, Three Years! Hard to Believe. I just looked it up two days ago.

I looked at some. But can't find they're pricing on the site. (>.<)

The gateway has a 2.53 ghz processor, 4 GB ram, and an nVidia GTX260m graphics card.
The Sager has a 2.8 ghz processor, otherwise its the same. Except it also has 500 GB on the hard disk, while gateway has 320 GB. Not sure if the extra hard disk space is worth it, so I might take it off. If I take it off, the sager will be only $450 more expensive. Don't know if the extra money is worth it. Any ideas?

Hmm, they're pretty much the same if I don't upgrade hard disk. Except the sager has a 2.8 ghz processor. Is it worth it paying the extra $450 just for that?

There are few games I know of that demand more than 2.5ghz. If I were you, I'd look at the type of games you'll want to be playing and see what specs they ask for.

If both laptops fit the description, I'd go with the cheaper one.

Hmmm. True. But I'll have this computer for a couple of years. Games change x.x
What I like about the gateway is that it's cheap with pretty good specs. On the other hand, its huge and I won't be able to carry it around or keep it on my lap. Grrr, it's so HARD to decide. Plus, the gateway doesn't have any reviews yet.
